So, from tomorrow (Monday 2nd February) we can add Lower Cliff to the list of closed sections on FtD & The Monkey Trail. It will be closed for a fair while due to 'forestry operations'.
The list of closures now looks like this:-
High Voltage (FtD) Zig Zak (FtD) Bomb Hole (FtD)
Devils Staircase (FtD - Monkey) Lower Cliff (Monkey)
All are closed due to forestry operations apart from Bomb Hole which is closed so Chase Trails can resurface it etc.
No dates have been published as to when each section will re-open but, the Forestry Commision has said they will be closed for 'the foreseeable future'.
Past experience has proven that the FC take no care whatsoever when working around the trails so, when they do eventually clear off, the trails will probably remain closed until Chase Trails can make them rideable..

Well won't be going up there for a bit mate The Monkey won't be too bad. You could easily work Stile Cop into the ride instead of Lower Cliff. The Dog just seems pointless to me at the moment though.

Theres still plenty of riding to be had at Cannock if you do what's left of the Donkey, it's still a half decent ride, imo. Natural stuff is a waste of time though, just a bog atm.

Interesting point you make about the F.C./ or their contractors not taking any care with regard to the trails . It always angers me when this happens at Kielder ..and just seems like a slap in the face to all the volunteers who have freely given their time..and such a waste of money ..much of which came in the form of a grant in the first place ... Asking for the contractors to pay due care and attention just falls on deaf ears ..but why shouldn't this be written into their contract. The excuse that this couldn't be done just holds no water as one of the lads we ride with who operates a forwarder ( the machine which cuts the trees down) says that they could work around the trails ..but that it would be time consuming .... Obviously getting the "mugs " who give their time freely to put it right is the easier option . It's one of the reasons ( but not the main reason why I no longer volunteer) ...as much as I have huge respect for those who ( still ) do ...and truly believe that anyone who rides at a trail centre should at least do one build at their local / nearest centre as a payback For those under the illusion that when they pay their F.C car park fee ..they are contributing towards the trails ...think again !

To be fair most trails will be muddy my local xc loop is a mud bath all part of the fun diffrent kind of riding and good for power bursts fitness.. Unless your riding a fat bike and you just ride over it ..
