I'm pretty sure that the South loop is closed during the week . It's a long way to go just to do the North loop . Even the blue is closed at the moment I think . There is some info on the forum ride to Whinlatter that Iride has put on .

Don't bother, it's really not worth doing, I did both loops last summer and was left very disappointed Very surprising .. I did both loops in December for the first time and thought it was terrific ..as good a trail centre that I've been on in England and only GT & Kirroughtree in Scotland have bettered it ! What's not to like ?

What's not to like ? I found the first loop rather dull with a lot of climbing for not much in return apart from the amazing final switchback descent, the second loop was just climb climb climb one average downhill then it was over, price of the car park was shocking, and so was the food. Me personally I cant recommend Gisburn enough, it's the nearest thing to a natural trail and there is never a dull moment in the full 12 miles, or 24 if you ride a fatty

I will give you that it's straight up and down twice ..but I thought that both drops were more than enough pay back I have never been to Gisburn ..but will one day . Bottom line I suppose is that if we all liked the same places ..it would be hellish crowded!

It's not worth the drive to just do one loop in my opinion but if both are open its. One of my favourite trail centres lots of climbing and some rewarding downs and great scenery too ,wouldn't bother with the cafe some belting pubs in the nearby village that do top notch grub .
Gisburn is decent too as another option going myself Wednesday .

Good for you Gaz! Congratulations .. I still think you will love Whinlatter ..if you want more go just along the road to Threlkeld and do a loop up to Blencathra towards Skiddaw House ...but come back along the side of Lonscale Fell drop down to the outskirts of Keswick...then back along the old railway line to Thelkeld . It's my very favourite short loop ..

Bit concerning really as it's a 3hr drive for us :/ Don't worry. I guarantee that you'll enjoy whinlatter. I'll even buy you a brew if you don't enjoy it. I think Macky is the first person that I've seen not to like it

So...if you only have Friday as a choice ...don't go ! It is not worth the trip just to do the North Loop due to the South loop and the blue being closed . If you can make it at the weekend ...well worth a visit , though the blue will still be closed. When all the trails are open again ...the way I was shown around was North trail , blue trail , South trail ..which worked for me ! Cafe is expensive ..there are numerous pub options locally ..I can't recommend the Horse & Farrier enough heading back towards the motorway at Threlkeld ..the chips come in little metal frying baskets...and there is real ale too Should you have an aversion to parking charges which one of our number does ..although he is always first to the bar ...then there is a lay-by shortly before you get to the car park that a number of people seem to use.... There is a bike wash ..and toilet facilities. ' bout it really ...hope you enjoy it as much as I did on my first visit

Your far too young to get married Gaz. I was 50 when I got married - I'd slowed down enough by then for someone to catch me
