I did my first skills course today and thought I would share it with you all seeing I hear mixed reviews about them.
It was with Jedi Rider (Tony) in Hertfordshire who I have to say was fantastic, he looked at all 4 of our riding styles/set ups and suggested changes which really worked well.
At the start of the day I was ok with say 4 foot drop offs but I had never felt comfortable to try gap jumps but after 5 hours we were all doing 9 foot gap jumps with confidence, our corning has improved, I would even go as far as to say I feel twice the rider after 5 hours which sounds crazy but is true.
I have not put the company name here incase members think this is just an advert but most people seem to know off him anyway.
If anyone has thought about doing a course but has been put off by mixed reviews I would say providing the person you see knows their stuff it is well worth doing.

Sounds great ..and good that you got so much out of it ...can't see the problem in mentioning who you went with myself ..always good to promote an excellent service .. Not that I would personally travel the 300 miles to use them !

Not that I would personally travel the 300 miles to use them ! Hodgy I cant tell you how good it was and what an eye opener it was too. All 4 of us did the same mistakes with our riding style, how we hit drop offs and jumps as we are all told the same rubbish and silly things but when a guy like him explains things and why its done like that you understand. For instance you NEVER put you weight over the back wheel but we are all told thats what you do, that was without doubt the best money I have spent. BTW it was www.ukbikeskills.co.uk

I've been on one of Tony's courses before - the best £80-ish I've spent on my bike for sure!

I've got mine on Saturday at the Cop. Never even been there but really looking forward to it, especially as I haven't been on my bike for 3 weeks!

I wish I had seen him a couple of years ago, it would have saved me some pain and made my Strava stats better. Let us know how your days goes Jimbo.

It's with a guy called Nathan that my mate found through Chase Trails facebook page after a few recommended him. Apparently he uses the cop area as it has every type of obstacle we need. We are all wheels on the ground guys but would like to get a bit of air!!!
Should be interesting. My objective is to improve my cornering, drop offs and how to jump ideally. Think we have about 5 hours between 4 of us.

Nath is a bloody ace rider. He lives a 2 minute ride from the Freeride area of Kinver so he had the ideal place to hone his skills. You can tell how smooth of a rider he is as he uses a 120mm travel FS for most of it! Also really reasonably priced compared to other companies.

I was always the same as you mate, I could do drop offs and some small jumps but I never really understood how I was doing or even if it was the right way. After the course I did I know I can take on bigger jumps/drops offs because I feel I understand how to do them but more importantly how to do them as safe as I can. I would advise everyone to go on the right course because it will only make you enjoy riding more but if you are not too far from Herts go and see Tony at his skills centre the man is unreal.

I'd be more than happy to help, so just get in touch. How much are you charging ? Hi Gaz. The ones I run start at £55 for a place on the group Trail Riding Skills session. Private sessions start at £80 for a half day and £125 for a full day. I would recommend a full day session if at all possible as it gives you more time to put it into practice, rather than rushing you through. More info here. www.thebikeschool.net

Yeah Pete those are the ones! Jim lives right by them so he knows where they are. Thankfully many don't
