Seems the funding rolling in has come to a stop now.. Maybe a few others are having these thoughts.. I wonder if all monies will be refunded to the donors if the total falls way,way short of the target figure? Reading the info on the site, he gets the money even if he doesn't make the target.

I think some of you are misunderstanding the use of the park.. like ben said in the video its going to be a training facility for features.... length of the trail is limited due to length of the hill but these trails will be highly concentrated with features of all shapes and sizes so you can start small and work up. which this will be great for starters and most people on here learning how to jump and ride drops which can then be implimented on any other trail you want. he is fundraising to get the main access road to the park built... the trails are no issue. once the access road is in the rest will be much easier. ive been speaking to ben (the owner) and he has already invested £20,000 of his familys savings in this project. He has the go ahead for everything he just needs to get it done, but its abit difficult with one pair of hands to plan and build a bike park on your own.

I've been following his progress on facebook . He's got himself a digger and he's started working on a few lines . As Ollie says he needs an access road to get trucks and materials in

Ollie ..while I like your enthusiasm and the fact that you have bought into this ..from a cold stark business point of view he is basically pissing in the wind ..while sounding like a lot of money a £20k investment is peanuts in terms of what he wants to achieve ..and let's not forget that he is doing this to make money ..not because he loves you and me . The bottom line is that if the banks won't support him in terms of investment ..then that should tell you something...

I've been right behind this for a while and quite excited, but someone I know has figured out the location, turns out there's only a 70m elevation, which equates to half a hamsterley downhill, or 2/3rds of an Aston hill.
Therefore you're talking around 1min runs.
Facepalm...

You wot ...he must have found the only flat piece of land in Cumbria ... There is more elevation than that in the field at the bottom of my garden to the valley floor road below ! I haven't looked today but pledges last night were around the £ 1800.00 mark . Q: if you were asking Joe public to contribute on a pledge scheme and wanted to give the impression that things were going reasonably well ..what's the best way to do that? Well if it was me I would have a chunk of money put to one side ..overestimate what I actually needed ..make a lot of pledges through mates ( using my own money) to get things started on a positive note ..then as things started to slow down ..drip feed more into the pot to make it appear successful but then that's just me ... Oops did I write that ...there goes Bike Park Northumbria ...

It's this wood here: goo.gl/maps/Dt0DPWhich looking at the OS maps... yep, 70m max fall. I really hope he makes it work but I think Neil may be right.

Good luck to him but he does seem another classic case of someone allowing the heart to rule the head. Has he really thought this through?

me being honest thinks he is well over his head , that venue just looks wayyyyyy to small ..i mean how many tracks does he plan on building ? and then the car park on top of that ..it just looks like i can ride around that in less than 30 mins . Oh i know hes building it underground ! i feel sorry for him as he seems a bit simple sorry .!! and how the feck is he supporting himself if hes quit his job ?

Just stick Greatbarrock Wood into google maps hodgy. Old folk and technology eh? (OS Map Ref: 465 475) - follow the A6 south east from Carlisle over the M6 for a few KM, it's on the side of Barrock Fell. Just looked at Hamsterley and that only has about 100m vertical drop so not too different although I think the Descend area is a bit bigger. Here's a response from the chap behind it all lifted straight from STW: I wish him well, I think the UK needs something like this.

Hamsterley downhill is just over 400ft and 130m i believe? Aston hill, which is about the flattest downhill in the country is about 90-100m
Ignoring the lack of elevation, hes talked about building really big stuff to make it stand out, but i think insurance will probably put a stop to that, or someone will bone themselves badly. That and a lot of people wont be able to ride it.
Revolution bike park in wales is the perfect example of what to do, they've got a big steep hill with 3-4 good natural tracks, 2 gnarly old landrovers, a shed, 2 or 3 staff and some burgers. What more could you want? Its kind of under the radar compared to other places, yet is booked up pretty much every weekend and seemingly doing well.
Priorities in descending order of importance:
1. Big hill so you make the most of the uplift, rather than spending all your time sat in a smelly van 2. Good trails 3. Variety of tracks, we probably normally only ride 2 of the 3/4 that are at revs when we go there

I wish him well and maybe it would be good a visit once, if it offers what he says it will and you can spend a full day, hitting a 3ft drop, then a 5ft drop then a 7ft etc. then I would probably go just to get some confidence on drops and gap jumps but I cant see anyone visiting more than once or twice a year
I still stand by my first point that he should have had 4 / 5 decent trails, got it a popular riding spot then started looking for investment

Andy ..cheers for the info ( ya cheeky git ! ) Nice story by Ben ...I still think he has gone arse about tit the way he has tackled it ..but if enthusiasm gets you anywhere then he deserves it to happen ..( I'm still not convinced ) Has anyone had a looky see if there is any info with regard to the site in British Columbia he refers to as a more direct comparison ? £2816 pledged to date ...don't think he is going to make it based on what I think is happening ..he will be lucky to get to £ 20k

That didn't end well..
I thought he'd do better than he did, if I'm honest.

It wouldn't surprise me if most of the money pledged was his own....

I still wish him all the best and hope it succeeds - can't knock anyone for having a go. Looks like the banks will be his only option though....

Check out his face book page. He does regular updates on what he is building. I think alot people will be happy with what he is putting together. And all on his own.
