I asked for it so i'll go first More and more folks up here slag off Glentress, "it's too busy","its too easy", "you have to pay too much for parking",blah blah blah, aye whatever. If your'e on a charge then sometimes the tourists slow you down a bit but i'd rather they came to ride the trails than not come to ride them. Glentress is still awesome,i've been going there for about 11 years now, Yesterday I rode the black route, 17 miles of awesome single track, knocking big chunks off my Strava times www.strava.com/activities/190557418, you meet all sorts too, met a couple from Birmingham and they're wedding party, they ride round Cannock Chase, maybe you know them, they got married at Gretna Green and were spending they're honeymoon at Glentress, brilliant, so if you aint ridden Gt in any form come and give it a go, you won't be dissapointed, Cheers Kev

I'll add to the Scottish collection, most of u south of the border will be closer to the 7 stands than me. I'll represent the very far north highlands. Endless riding to be had, especially with some local knowledge to guide you.

I'd love to ride anywhere in Scotland.
A 17 mile black route sounds good to me. Cannock Chase is my local and apparently it's one of the busiest centres in the country!
Yeah it's annoying at times but, on the whole, it's good.
You meet alsorts including unicyclists...

Much respect to the trail fairies.. As a former trail builder at Kielder what you do mainly goes under the radar .. But from one who knows ... Is greatly valued and appreciated!

Aye the moaners are the ones that are too hardcore for it and want more of a challenge, there are harder off piste bits since they had the EWS there a few months back but really i think they just moan about it because of it's popularity and because it's just not THEIR wee bit of trail

I love Glentress. Never rode the Black route though. Not sure whether I'd like it more than the red or not!

I've never ridden the whole black but have done loads of the sections when mixing it up with the red and Blue (best way to do it imo), I think when I get the new bike I'll give the whole black a try as it will be a bit easier on the climbs

I love Glentress. Never rode the Black route though. Not sure whether I'd like it more than the red or not! If youve got the legs for the climbs mate then its defo worth it for the descents, and if you can keep the momentum together and link up all the sections from the top all the way down to Deliverence then it feels Like the trails never gonna end, its a superb trails,i love it

I'm 65 miles from glentress and when i do it i want to do it in style , i want to do the red and black and then do inners the day after , for only my fitness is poo at the minute, and wanting new bike so might have to do it in the spring , really regret not doing it this summer but i have had a shoulder injury (impinged) and my bike being repaired all over the hot days for 6 weeks at CRC. really cant wait to do them both over a weekend , might even camp out to save those penny's .
chickenhopper and Euan can take me round too and show me how pro's do it .
Side note , i really love it here in scotland even though im only on the border , the people are better and so many places to ride within reason (need to drive but worth it). need to tackle Ae red again as it keeps defeating me through tiredness . that up hill man made slope on the way up to omega man just fecking kills ya . I call it the curly wirly spiral .
Will do kielder water soon though .

Glentress is still to date my most favourite place. Was the first place i went when i got a mountain bike. It was 65 miles each way for me, but never thought twice about it. A day out of adrenalin. Wish i was still only 65 miles away, would love to see how the new bike compares there. come up in the spring mate and we camp out and do that and inners over a weekend and get others too . if we arrange it now then gives me lots of time to get fit and lose 10 kilos . go march april , and ask zulu and others to come to .. its strictly camping so we can tell ghost stories pmsl . would be good .

I did the EWS up there and personally preferred inners and the caberston or "golfie" trails, glentress was fun but prefer the natural feel of the other to areas.
My personal favourite scotch trail is kirroughtree, that place is the nuts!

I'm a big fan of Kirrou too , try and get up there at least twice a year for a week at a time , pity black crags is closed atm but I love doing a quick hour and half round the red in the morning and then in the evening , leaves the rest of the day free for family , as far as parking charges go if it get's ploughed back into the ameneties then what's the problem .

They were just finishing the visitor centre last December and it looked like the money is being well spent, they know how to make trail centres properly north of the border.
