Has anyone ridden the South Downs Way? Been looking online and im really interested in riding it this summer I want to try do it in one day, 100 miles, cant be that hard!!! I've done a mtb ride which was 55 miles, and a road ride on a mtb which was 65 odd miles, so i think with a bit of training, its definitely doable! I trained for my 7 hills event last year and finished that feeling quite fresh, however, this does seem like a much harder challenge, 12000 feet of climbing, and some quite risky chalk descents! I was going to enter the BHF event but its for over 18's so i'll ride it solo in the summer Any help / tips e.t.c?

I was looking at doing the bhf , this year but already got a fair few event going on .. If your fit and its dry from wot ive learnt of its its not a bad route .. If it's wet good look will be very slippy Plus they have got a cut of point on the bhf one due to time ..

From what I have read it's a bit gruelling ...no major height gains but a constant roller coaster with short sharp ups and downs ..and punctures aplenty with the flinty surface ....on the plus side your young and fit ( in a non -gay sort of way!) Good luck !!

Haha, will sure be the longest MTB ride i'll be doing! Haven't ridden the bike for about a month now. Will hopefully repair it soon and get back out on it From what ive read, it sort of sounds like the Tennyson Trail bridleway, which i ride most weekends. Very much up and down, but thats only 10 miles long and like 2k of climbing. Maybe if i spent the day riding that ten times, i might be able to see if i can handle the SDW!!!

From what I hear you will need plenty of spare tubes but good luck.

The Fast Trak Flak Jackets didnt let me down on my long XC rides last summer, some on chalky descents, so im hoping they're up to the job again this year!
