Well we went today - bit of an epic drive in the old jalopy - it got us there and back and Bird's current base is well hidden in deepest darkest Hampshire! Me and Jay were joking on the way that it would be one old chap in a brown coat working out of his garden shed and we were almost on the money! They are upgrading the main factory/warehouse atm so are having to build bikes in the office! Anyway - took a L and an M off to Swinley and set off on a brilliant warm sunny day. Swinley is great IMO, fast, jumpy, swoopy and bermy and even has some real quality single track through very tight trees on the red - bloody loved it. The bikes? an absolute no brainer. I personally haven't rode a HT that sticks that well to the corners and berms - fecking superb and was very impressed with the Sweeps, which IMO, out performed the Revelations on the AM spec Zero we had. In short, I'm totally sold and know I've made the right choice. Can't wait to get it ordered! Would I go to Swinley again despite the 280 mile round trip? Absomotherfeckinlutely.

Cheers Hodgy - wanderlust? it'll never last! As someone who has never even considered a Maxxis tyre combo - I was extremely impressed, but not surprised - that's why so many have them. Obviously that was based on one ride in very dry conditions but, with the summer fast approaching - I look forward to getting some miles in on them! Even Jay - that well known Schwalbe fan boy - said he might change over to them. The bike looks a lot better in the flesh too and the yellow, in my humble opinion (and as I'm buying the bugger it's the only opinion that counts), looked feckin awesome.

Yeah, good day. Loved Swinley. One section I remember laughing to myself it was that much fun. The bikes were great too, loved being off the ground but stuck to the dirt like glue when you wanted them too. Amazing speed through corners which I think is a combination of frame geo, tyres and spension. The Sweeps were way better than expected, better than the Revelations in my opinion. They kept the front planted and didn't make a fuss about it. Great forks. Really impressed with the bike and could almost be tempted to get one myself.
It would be great to get back to Swinley soon to spend the day there and maybe do a bit of exploring.

Nice one lads - shame I couldn't join you.
How did they compare size wise? Was there much difference between the M and L?

Nice one lads - shame I couldn't join you. How did they compare size wise? Was there much difference between the M and L? Dirk, chalk and cheese. It's this new fangled sizing 17 and 19 'M' and 'L'. Physically it's the top tube length that's paramount (Top tube height is very low slung so doesn't come into it - gives great stand over height btw). The difference is something like 585mm to 615mm, I've always been a Medium but will order the Large, the M felt over cramped and uncomfortable - the large was just spot on (50mm stem and 760 bars), not overstretched - just right. Best way I can describe the new sizing is the M is actually a big small and the L a big medium - if that makes sense? Anyhoo, we both agreed it made a massive difference to the ride and we both wanted to ride the Large! I'd really, really suggest you get a test ride mate - maybe wait until mine arrives and av a goo on that if you can't make the rather humongous journey. Alternatively we were so impressed with Swinley forest that me and Jay are on about going back - maybe a forum ride? and the nice man at Bird said he would supply us with a free guide to show us the cheekies in Swinley! which apparently are numerous and ace! Niiiice!

Nice Jay - I'd forgotten what a glorious day it was, weather wise. For anyone looking on - it wasn't all fire roads! just we were having so much fun hitting the trails we didn't stop once on 'em!
In fact - that's the least fire roady trail centre I've done - that's what makes it so great!

To be honest, we only really did one fireroad and that was when we had to cut some out because we were short of time!
Great place for a fun blast.

Cheers Zulu. Will have a measure of my current bikes ETT and see how it compares.
You ordering Yellow or Blue? (noticed that they might be dropping the pink graphics on the yellow in favour of black).
Sounds like a cracking days riding.

Next time a much earlier start time required - I seriously misjudged the journey and also how much fun Swinley would be. We didn't even look at the DH or free ride bits.
That or a B&B stopover!.

We had 2 blues to ride and the blue really is a lush blue but I was looking at the yellow frames in Birds office and in the flesh they win hands down for me. I like the hooligan pink decals but am interested to hear where you got the black decal info from? David never mentioned it although without seeing pics, I think I would prefer it as it is, tbh.

The yellow is a lovely colour.. A bit 'in you face' for some maybe but nice none the less. The only single complaint I have about the bike was a creaking noise. It was there on both bikes and I couldn't pin point where it was coming from! It may well be due to the fact that the bikes we had were ridden into the ground? I just seemed a bit strange that both bikes had the same creak. They also had mis matched valve caps which was annoying... I'd have to change the grips too. I'd stick my usual ODI Yeti's on.

Sorry - just checked back on face-ache and it's the yellow Aeris that's getting black.
When you looking at ordering?

C2W been approved and signed for just waiting on Nestle to pay C2W and supply me with the C2W voucher and I'm away - probably within the next week or maybe the week after. Nestle are always a bit slow on this type of stuff Was looking at the Aeris's being built up in the office too - if that is anywhere near as good a ride as the Zero then that will be a very good F/S too.

I agree with all of this. Although you've got worse OCD than me as you noticed the valve caps - not me . The only thing I'll change is the grips, as you said to Yeti's. The clicking/creaking I'm sure is down to the fact these bikes looked pretty well abused! I'll soon know when I get mine.

Oh, also I didn't like the Zee brakes at all. The XT are on/off a bit too, even compared to my Formula's on the Chief but the XT's are still a very good stopper and they felt loads better than those horrible Zee's.

THINK they were the raceface half nelsons - don't get me wrong, not a deal breaker and I would leave them on til they wear out - but they ain't anywhere near as nice as the ODI Yeti's. In fact feck it - think I'll just get another set of Yeti's, best grips I've ever used.
