Ste.. Hey looks good ! The high speed dismount needs a bit of work though near the end ...otherwise 9/10 for artistic impression ..just falling short of a full 10 because you didn't roll over enough and it could have been me but the sound effects were fairly lacking ..you need a few more groans in there .... Definite potential though ..keep at it ! I was still thinking about the legs and tits on the girls I'd just passed

Ok chaps.. I know this is a relatively short ride but the climbing will be a real energy muncher. I'm going to fill my guts with porridge before I leave but I'm just wondering what food etc would be good to take with me?? I really, REALLY don't want a repeat of Llandegla!
I'm thinking maybe some flapjack and Haribo or fruit pastilles?

I'm not a fan of porridge, however I'd recommend a massive pizza the night before, and scrambled eggs in the morning! I carry meat/protein with me, and a bar of chocolate or 11

Take a couple of Torq energy gels ..they give you a boost when needed....try to plan about 10 mins before a major climb ...the orange one & also the apple crumble are my favs. Also it's a proven fact that Jaffa cakes give an excellent short term energy boost ...

I'm going to stick with a couple of bananas, couple of small flap-jacks, couple of chocolate bars and some fruit pastilles I think.
I don't want a bag weighing 2 tonne.

The key to a good ride is not so much what you eat on the day it's how you prepare earlier. The day before i ride i will eat 2 bananas then down a huge bowl of pasta bolognese, and drink 2 litres of water. Then on the morning of the ride at least 2hrs before i ride I'll have cereals, a banana, 2 coffees, and a berroca drink. Then on the actual ride all i'll take is 2 500ml tesco isotonic drink and a bag of skittles, last Sunday's peaks outing was 7+ hours and i brought back half a bag of the skittles and 3/4's of a bottle of the drink.
Everybody is different though some like to dump 3ltr's of water into the gut but i just find it bloats me and makes me piss a lot.

We normally meet at 10 for 10-30 start although I just noticed a 9-00 start was mentioned some pages ago. I've got stuff to do before then traverse the M1-roadworks so can't manage 9-00 start but I don't want to put you guys out.
What's the confirmed timing?
(Glynn's in bed after a night shift but I've just left a message with Mrs G so she'll pass him a message when he's had his beauty sleep and no doubt he'll make a definitive announcement)

Andy I think the early start was to accommodate Jay who is on nights tomorrow so needs to get back earlyish. No way you can put off what you have to do?

I agree with 99% of what you have said there Macky ..carb loading the day before is a must ..and I start drinking lots of water too ..sometimes but not always with Nuun tabs . On the day of the ride ..I only have whole meal toast and marmite ..except if I am staying away on multi day rides when I will have the biggest cooked breakfast the B&B's can provide ! ..( .it works for me ) I also carry more food than I need ..in case of emergency ..always carry my camelback full to capacity on all day rides with at least 2 -2and a half Nuun tablets in the bladder ..and drink regularly to avoid cramp ..just small sips ..but I remember reading once that if you are thirsty when you take a drink then you have left it too late.. Post ride ..depends what you believe ..but current thinking is that protein is the way to go to repair muscle and as soon as possible ( milk drink) or carry a portable BBQ for a steak lol!! .. The other thing to remember is that the body is still burning calories for up to half an hour afterwards ...so whatever you eat then you are quids in ... But like you said it 's all down to personal preference
