As the title says, how often do you ride and think.....if only I had better xy or z. I do all the time. When ever I come back from a ride I nearly always find myself on the tinternet looking for something I was thinking about on my ride, and the more I ride the more I want to shop. Yesterday, with the trails drying, I was thinking about a new rear tyre, fancy an ardent or ardent race. My crc wish list just keeps getting bigger (brakes, forks, etc) time before was my technique and fitness, how the feck do I take these berms better next time and take these climbs without nearly passing out . I guess thats why I enjoy riding, always wanting to get better......can you just ride and enjoy?

I ride and enjoy it all the time. It's kind of a stress relief system for me.
As for always looking for something else to buy? It's your hobby, how many other hobbies do you know where you don't want to get the next new thing? I'm constantly looking at which new tyres to get, thankfully that's about it for me now really. I just buy more jerseys.

To be honest, until you asked the question, I've never thought about what I've funked about whilst riding..
I know on the way back home I always start thinking of sausage sandwiches.. When I ride with Motozulu (my perving partner) I probably just think about tits and fanny.

Well APART from the perving, yeah, you always want better don't you? human nature, innit? Brakes, clobber, whole new bikes....all part of the fun and obsession.

The only thing I think off when I am on the bike is how to stay on :-)
I am terrible for looking for new parts that I don't need, been looking at Mavic Wheels, Guide Brakes (definitely don't need these my Trail 9's are amazing) I just always want the latest and greatest. I really want a Debonair shock, however I can't find one to fit my bike

I'm always just greatful to ride my bike, I'd ride in asda trainers if i had to and just be happy to get out. My hubby had a bit of stress at work recently and when he came home after a ride with his friends i swear it's the first time i saw a genuine smile for days (of course he always smiles like that when out with me ). I never think of what i want, just how lucky i am that i didnt end up in a and e

This is very true Kalli - I want a 5 grand carbon Santa Cruz but will never have one - dreams don't hurt as long as they don't get obsessive.
Though you are right in what you say - most times I am just happy to be alive and out there, everything else seems secondary.

Good question. Until recently I've been looking at fairly expensive bikes, buying odd bits and bobs for mine (and Sons build...) and thinking wouldn't XY or Z be good. Most of it I don't need - I have a perfectly good bike that works.
With family events and stressfull times over the last couple of weeks I've just been happy to get out and ride - and think about my riding. Where can I go quicker, how's best to tackle that section etc.
Glad to be healthy and close to some great riding.
A new bike can now wait a while as I enjoy whay I have and trying to pass the enthusiasm I currently have on to my kids.

im not one for changing components just for the sake of it. lately tho theres a constant nagging in me 'ead that I need to replace my frame due to worn pivot housings on the rear triangle. available parts for the rz120 are getting scarce, this at the same time as iv got a daughters wedding to pay for by july.

I'm always looking for something new to buy and with my Birthday next month I usually have a long list of bike related stuff but for the first time in years..nothing! Can't think of anything I ACTUALLY need. Wouldn't mind another new bike but in all honesty what I would like most is, time. Never have enough and after 2 weeks of stress with work and home I couldn't have felt better after 2 hours riding on Saturday.

Was out at the weekend in Nidderdale on my 97 Kona Lava Dome , it's had a few tweeks to update it a bit for my old bones and joints , grinning all the way round and just can't believe how well the old thing rides (don't think the guys on the fancy carbon modern full sussers were too impressed with us all though , me I'm happy with the soul and the lava dome , the downhills and the views are what get me smiling along with good company oh and it gives me an even bigger laugh flying past a load of overpriced and overspecced modern things especially when on the old Kona .

I'm happy if everything's working as it should, this winter has taken it's toll though, new B/B, rear hub bearings, disc pads, rear mech and shifter, fork service, headset service, wheel tru up, frame bearings done, new tyres (courtesy of my generous mate Big Chief Euan ta much i owe you ) and hopefully that's it set for the summer, hhhhmmmm just thinking about some cranks that i don't really need P.S. New (to me) Shimano Zee brakes but this was a swap deal, traded my Formula's for these as a fella off Pinkbike doesn't like Shimano
