Well we were talking about going to GT this Saturday ..but myself and CBM have to be back early ..so that knocked that on the head ..one of our number is still going I think with a mate of his ..so look out for a fluro orange 5 and an SC Bronson ..colour unknown ..should be easy enough to spot if you are there ! We ( myself , CBM , Gramish and possibly the Godfather Jaconelli) are starting early at Edmundbyers to do a different version of a Bolts Law loop which is slightly naughty so I can't give full details but it aims for Hisehope Resevoir ( naughty ) cuts into the C2C route over the Waskerley Way with a cafe stop at the road junction for Stanhope ..continues on towards Rookhope ...where depending on what we want to do may involve a rough clatter down to Rookhope itself ..or we might just turn off before the winching station to cut into the Bolts Law bridleway ( the drop to Rookhope being legal but involving a stiff road climb back out ..the shorter version being naughty and where I have been caught a few times previously and may well be recognised ) ..living on the edge eh ! The return leg over Bolts Law being on fantastic singletrack with a short road climb before more superb s/t nearly all pointing down ..to the start back in Edmundbyers r]Naturally I'm not advocating that anyone should do this route without the landowners permission...so if you do it is at your own risk !!! We are meeting at the start of the lead mining trail on the B6306 ( Blanchland road ) in Edmundbyers .rough grid ref : NZ013 502 ..to START at 9.30 am ....everyone welcome !

Anyway - good luck mate - I'm on nights this weekend - seems I got the best of the weather on Weds and Fri though!

Yeah it probably is ! Anyway ..ahem ahem ..as we got a message from Colin early doors that he could no longer make it ..myself and Graham decided that we would still give it a go and met at the appointed time . I knew as soon as I stepped out of the car that it wasn't going to happen ..the conditions were atrocious and the wind which wasn't supposed to pick up until later in the day had already arrived and as the whole of the ride was on exposed moorland with no cover at all we both reached our fck this for a lark moment at exactly the same time! It was bad enough at the lowest point of the ride and we had a load of climbing from the start ..so common sense for once won the day ... Pretty pissed off having travelled 25 miles to get there ..but we had nice coffee in Hexham to get over it ...only the second time I can think of that I have travelled anywhere but then not started a ride ...

Shame mate - but the wind has been up down here too - surprising as we live in a valley - must be really rough in exposed parts! Don't blame you.

Yes that was a sad waste of diesel. The wind got worse as the day went on even if the rain mostly stopped and it got quite sunny. My brothers house is halfway up a hillside near Allendale, not quite as exposed as the Waskerley Way, and they had their shed roof ripped off, so I'd say it was a good choice to ditch the ride! I may be more likely to take heed of Met Office amber warnings in future...

Actually ..you got me thinking about those Llamas ..and especially when my good lady reminded me that in the wild they " protect " sheep and other animals ...so ..just how close did you get to them / they to you ..their natural instinct is to walk away from humans ..apparently ( see I have done some research ) ..but you know me ..anything that is as tall as me with more legs ..I'm extremely wary of !! ( it's a cow thing ...got surrounded in a field once ..scary !)

The closest 2 or three were much further than I can spit but much closer than I can lob a clemmy. They didn't move in any direction, just lifted their heads and stared at me very hard, so I gave in and left quietly. Some of them were quite well camouflaged amongst the heather and bracken so I did wonder if they were gonna try a flanking manoeuvre but they had better things to do apparently.

Hmm ..interesting ..so what you are saying is that they were hard bastards with camo gear on ..stared you out and weren't averse to the odd military manoeuvre ..wonder if they were "packing" ? Hoping not to get too close as those long necks are world champion gobbers ...hope I make it to the other side!

Well..the ride is on for tomorrow at a revised time of 10.00am..probably just the three of us ..although the godfather hasn't yet confirmed and I don't really want to push him too much for an answer in case I end up swimmin wif da fishes ... At least our retired vet ...Colin Barkin Mad (CBM ) is going to be on hand in case things get a little hairy with the Llamas ( he had his name changed by deed poll from Doolittle ) ...one verbal Ayrshire mouthful from him and they will all be diving for cover... Looking forward to the first section which I have never been on before ...

Well three of us got out today ..and it was fabtastic ..and a great way to do this route..a few pics .. Barking Mad had a word and they left us well alone .. The "naughty " track out of Edmundbyers ..with the village behind and the Derwent Resevoir in the background ..there were unexplored tracks all over this moor Still on the naughty stuff ..CBM & Jaco And errr Hodgy & Jaco Legal stuff ..the C2C route Unfortunately ..the storage on my camera reached capacity and I was unable to take more .. It was a great ride and the 7km downhill fromthe summit of Bolts Law back to Edmundbyers never fails to produce a massive grin
