Any opinions on either?
The Virb looks like it has a great spec and is on CRC for £99 at the moment. The Elite version with built in WI-FI and GPS is about for around £160. One worry with the Virb would be mounting options but, you can apparently use Go-Pro mounts with it!? Garmin make a shoulder mount which looks interesting. Another worry is the size/shape of the Virb. It doesn't really lend itself to chest mounting for example.
The £99 Go-Pro is another option. Tried and tested with loads of mounting options.
A few reviews I've read have put the Garmin ahead of the Go-Pro they were testing it against.
Anybody used the Virb?

I don't use either ..but the most important thing is does either one of the brands have a yellow / black colour combo to keep you on the right side of normal ?

Theres tonnes of comparisons on youtube, try them and see what you think. If you have eyes you'll probably go for the gopro.

I really like the idea of the virb elite with being able to put your bike dynamics on the video. Speed elevation etc however the form factor of the camera is a worry for me. It is bullet shaped and I always think that on a chest mount and you fall that's gonna fucking hurt. www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/12/garmin-depth-review.html Have a read of this he compares the hero3 with these and really in depth.

The intro on that review was a little bit anal .. I was actually wondering when he was going bring the wife/kids,dog, cat & budgie out to say hello ...in depth ..yes..but talk about dull....!! Anyway ..rapidly lost interest as I'm not in the market for either..but do agree that the Garmin has the potential to do more harm on impact ...

He does go on a bit and after a while you know when you can skip bits but if your in the market for anything like that I don't think you can fault how thorough and honest he is

As much as I like the Garmin, I think I'll get the Go-Pro!
I'll probably buy the Hero!

I hope the Gopro is better because I've just ordered a 3+ Silver so that I can watch back the stages at races. Got the original one at the minute and it's amazing how far they've moved on in not a lot of time.

I've been looking at used Hero 3's on Pinkbike. You can get a black edition with accessories for decent prices.
That's if the people selling them actually wanted to sell rather than just mess you about.

I've got the original one. Hardly ever bother with it, tbh but it does what it's meant to do, it records stuff and plays it back. I was thinking of selling it but now the new one is out, for what I'd get I might as well keep it. Just can never be arsed to faff about taking it on rides!

Apologies for the nobby presenter and his accent but a decent review - I'd be a bit concerned on the weight issue, tbh but it has some great features - the big on/off switch, the fact you can use it with Go Pro mounts and the battery life pisses all over a Go pro especially if using the viewing screen, apparently.
