Hi Gaz. Much the same or worse for tomorrow morning with lots of rain over night.
The route I mentioned for tomorrow is only good when it's dry. So I dropped you a text about meeting up through Belmont village on rivi road so we can potter up and down from the tower, there's a lot of route options that we can decide on dependant on the conditions but it's mostly hard pack and rocky up there so we ll be okay.
We can climb up the old Belmont road drop down from pigeon tower down the ice cream run, climb round back toward the tower around the bottom of the Chinese gardens drop down towards the barn maybe go over to healey knob climb back up to the tower. If we have time we can climb right to the mast and drop down San Marino or if tight drop back down Belmont old road.
Is that okay, 9am still okay. Anybody else is welcome to join us for a wet mornings ride up and down many a hill.

I'm not a complete expert on the area but can find my way around the fun bits, it maybe good to do a route and combine rivington tower and a couple of fun bits come down San Marino and head over Darwen tower and down so you get too sample a bit of both on the same ride. personally there's a few too many walkers around both for me when the weathers good and if I had to choose one ride around there or hurstwood/widdop hebden bridge if would be the latter.

So you'll be the one manualling past me upto the pike! macky if they've done done work on San Marino they only good thing would have been to partially fill some of those deep ruts, they were getting past crank deep in places.

Wash your mouth out with soapy water! filling ruts in is borderline roadie talk Last time i rode it though i noticed halfway down the underground cabling was starting to show through so i think it's due a full resurface soon so that they can get the diggers in and repair the cabling, bad news for us as it will completely wreck the trail

A normal rut is okay but these are more like trenches, Do you know when the work starts? No mate, i would imagine it's when the wires start breaking they'll move in, someone mentioned the other day that some new stone has been put down and it's made the trail proper loose to ride on.

Went down there this morning with Windysurfer (Gaz) there was no sign of any work being done or stones down. It was riding well up until those really deep ruts that are about 3qtrs of the way down. There's some plastic tubing/piping poking out now. I stopped there to warn Gaz of to avoid the ruts and noticed there's just one line to the right that you can most likely pop off and clear the worst of the ruts, so that's my mission next time I'm up there. we had an enjoyable ride up there this morning and found a good cheeky section that I think can be worked in nicely. The ice cream run is getting rockier and rockier and good fun going down, we decided to try and climb up it as well and did okay but ran out of puff just before the ledges and the small original Tarmac Island, it was bloody knackering mind.

Sweet! I was just going off what someone mentioned that some resurfacing had started, hopefully it won't. Ice cream run is a f****r to climb Wilderswood is a cracking descent, i start at the gate just after the dog kennels and it starts with a nice little drop off, then twists through the trees, drop off the banking onto the rocky path, then hammer it down through the gates straight ahead and twist and turn all the way down to brownlow rd.

Wilderswood is my favourite run up there but I was shown another one yesterday that was pretty quick and rocky. Will show you that one next time we are up there john.

Sounds good. I think Gaz was quite surprised by the rockiness of the Ice cream run, I did warn him its gets a bit bumpy!
How did the course go, was it worth while? more importantly have you got rid of that cough now?

Course was good got rid of a few bad habits learned stuff that would help on the way down rocky bits. Coughs on its way out only really appeared at times of hard exertion. Need to get out a bit more now if going to have a chance of being fit enough to go up snowdon

Are you heading to the Acrington coppice tomorrow night on the OYB ride, I should be able to make that one in time, if not I can get over to Darwen on Thursday if you fancy climbing up and down the Tower. By the way I just wanted to check if this is Wilders Wood or have I stumbled down a trail I shouldn't have again by accident (promise). It can start down from near the pigeon tower and you go down this rough bit with steps then you can ride across and down a kind of stepped terrace which zig zags down and joins the bottom track towards where you park you car, or you can drop down from the kennels and fork of left instead of heading past the Pike, then you go across a partially paved narrow path at the top and zig zag back down with very titch switch backs. If its not Wilders Wood, whats this area called. I went on Sunday with Windysurfer and accidentally when I tried to meet you at the car the other Saturday.

I am hoping to get there tomorrow night work permitting but it is my plan to turn out. That bit doesn't look like Wilderswood and I am struggling to work out from your description if you did get there or not. See you at 7 tomorrow if you are out hopefully

I went up Lee Quarry straight from work and ducked out of putting the nipper sto bed last night as well so on reflection I may be pushing it for tomorrow but I will try!
