So we were going to head to Swinley forest, but instead we decided to head to Cwmcarn as we know the trails and enjoy them a lot. The weather was quite windy in the exposed areas, especially up at the top section, still couldn't stop the sun though! I definitely need to head back once the weather is calmer though, trying to hit some jumps gets a little scary when there's a beast of a cross wind! Oh, I also fell off, how? Not a bloody clue, I've also hurt the shoulder I didn't fall on. I'm not sure either! Well, here's some photos! u wot m8? And a video of the bail: http://instagram.com/p/1WIZHwsBSl Finally I had this in my rear window all the way home.. whoops!

great pics I love cwmcarn, haven't tried the downhill there but the xc trails are great. The climb up the twrch trail is a bitch. We did the blade trail at afan today.I have only rode the wall and penhydd there before, but my goodness the last decent to the carpark was awesome. We got chance to ride the raven trail at brechfa in the week which is graded black, but i think the first climb up and the last down are more difficult than the raven. Its only that jump section in the middle that gives it the black grading, and everything has a run around. Unlike the final descent on blade. I swear I have a cut under my wedding ring where i was holding on to the bars for dear life

CYB I reckon you'd love Gaz, for me though, I came away thinking it was a lot of climbing for not that much reward. That was the Dragons back though, haven't done any other trails there.

I totally agree with you motozulu,i did really like some of dragons back but there was a lot of climbing and much more fire road than i would of liked. We did tarw du (i think it means black bull) to and i liked it more. It starts by the centre through the black horns. Its quite tricky at the start and i thought it was gonna be like it all the way around but it wasn't to bad. Cant remember as much fire road either. I still have mbr left to go then i'll try the beast.

I've not ridden CYB or Degla I'm afraid so I can't compare really. If you're thinking of heading down give me a shout and I'll make the journey as well. Some quite fun technical climbing which can really catch you out! Decents are fun as well, rocky but not DH mental.
If you do come down, I'd avoid the Cafell trail, seemed more like interval training with long bust up hills followed by annoyingly short downs, made it very hard going. The Twrch trail is pretty much all the way up to the top, the pretty much all the way back down as well. Very fun.

I liked the cafall trail, the up is much easier than the twrch climb just longer, but the downs were quite rocky in places. I have some scars on my right arm from the cafall trail, just past pedal hounds entrance the track seems much wider i stopped to get a branch from between my shocks but didnt get off the bike. When i shifted between feet i lost my footing and fell against a fence. When i tried to move my arm away i realised i was stuck to the fence and couldnt move it because it was a barbed wire fence. I had to pick my arm off we usually do the two trails with the twrch first as its a long way to travel for just the one. The free ride section on the twrch trail is great to and why we always do that trail first.

I'd be happy to ride both tbh. The freeride section is excellent fun! Pretty good facilities as well tbh.

If you like the free ride section on the twrch trail you would love the section quite near the end on the raven at brechfa, theres a rocky step down rock garden, berms, more rocks and 3 huge table tops that were taller than me. You just have to make sure you stay on the raven as at one point it meets with the blue and splits again just before a blue berm. Soooo easy to miss when travelling at speed.

We were going to head to Brechfa, but the weather was shite.
I'm thinking a forum tour of Wales trail centres may be on the cards.

Marsbar - you have GOT to ride Degla.
At least once - you owe it to yourself. If you think it's a bit 'Meh' then come back and tell me, but for me it's feckin ace.

I'm working on it, it's a nearly 4 hour drive there, so it'll probably be a case of go over the course of 4 days, drive up one day and stay in a premiere inn, Degla one day and CYB the other and then head back the following day. On that subject, would any of you chaps that are near by be up for something like that? Smashing the trails over a weekend or something?

Depends when your thinking Seb, should be ok for one of the days but can't commit to two.

I have no idea tbh, I can get time off end of May, but not sooner. Best bet I reckon would be the start of June. Hell, I may even only tackle on trail centre, save the other for another date in the year. Probably be easier on the old legs.
