Hi Guys
My oldest boy is getting quite keen on mountain biking. It is his birthday soon and he has asked for some kids 510s which I am ordering for him.
i thought I would surprise him with some pedals to go with them he currently has the standard black pedals that come with most kids bikes. I had looked at shimano saint pedals. Anyone got these how are the pins? I don't want them to tear his legs to bits.
Or or is this a bad idea ?

I've got some black Wellego flat pedals that came with my Boardman. No pins, so may be ok for what your after. They've never been used and you could have them for the cost of postage. I will get you some pics tomorrow if you like.

maybe get a decent set of pedals but take the pins out to start with.let him get used to them first and then refit the pins at a later date.

How about some pedals that allow you to adjust the height of the pins? I'm sure most allow you to do that don't they? Would still give him the grip of the flats, but any shin+pedal moments shouldn't rip his legs to pieces?

Thanks guys. I'll try later the pins and maybe take them out I'll keep you updated with how I get on.
Thanks for the offer of pedals but I'll just get these shimano ones ordered. Much appreciated though

I'm 42 and have many scars on my shins from when I was a kid on my BMX didn't bother me then, doesn't bother me now! My wife just shakes her head when I come in with blood running down my legs. Lol
Just buy them and let him get on with it.

Aye, but because we were little dickheads we used to make them even worse by getting out a file and getting them really sharp. Foot never slipped off but if you missed the pedal and it spun round and hit you in the shin you knew about it! Oh the joys of youth!
