I know this has been done but can't find it in search.
So what's the best resolution for filming rides? all out 1080 or do we think less is more?
Cheers.

720p @60fps, don't need much more really. The high frame rate allows for the camera to catch all the detail, if your camera supports it, it allows you to capture still while recording as well. Boosted battery life helps as well.

Cheers mate - was thinking of 960p but haven't got much idea on the techy front. I'll give this setting a go this weekend.

720p gives you the wide screen frame, great for showing clips off on your phone etc. 960p makes it a square, massive black bars on the sides when you come to showing the videos, makes it look a bit like you've used an old video recorder, except in HD.

Pez , my mate showed me this feature on his gopro on Tuesday . I think it will be pretty useful . Instead of having the camera switched on all the time you are out (wasting battery life)it just starts recording when you turn it on and stops when you turn it off

and the higher the resolution of the video then the more time and RAM you will need to edit it (unless you have a top spec speed machine for a laptop or desktop PC...)

^ this. My laptop struggles with 1080p, amd can just about handle 720p. Go with something you'll be able to throw together easily. Nothing ruins motivation more than waiting 2hrs for a 6 minute video to encode.

Spent fing hours trying to get these up , use a mac and remember to keep the clips less than 10 mins and you'll save a lot of time .
.
The second 2 I had in one clip and took 7.5 hours to upload only to fail twice (windows machine) took the raw footage into work and easy peasy and about 1/2 hour each to upload (ancient mac laptop not a fancy modern thing either !)

1080p/60fps for me. I can actually edit a video on my phone, with proper music using it. Upload to my phone via the wifi, edit it with Vivavideo and on to Instagram. All the little headcam on my Instagram on my phone were done like that. Didn't realise how useful the wifi on it would be until I got it. I've got a 3+ Silver btw.

On my new 4 I I use 1080p 16:9 superview, but on my older gopros I always used the 960 4:3 res as you get a bit more sky and bar in shot

Only got the old original Go pro hero - no wifi here. I'll give the 720 a whirl, then the 960 - see which works better.
