Funny that Graham...I remember a certain rider in the not too distant past coming down those steps on his then fully rigid steed legs flailing everywhere and being tossed around like a rag doll..while the rest of us held our collective breath at the bottom ! The fact that he made it intact and was prepared to have a go earned our respect though ..even if to this day we don't quite know how that happened... F/F a few years and a couple of bikes later and he is un -identifiable from the rider he was that day ...any idea as to who that could be ? Lol.

Ahh, it makes sense now! I pass 'tourist signs' for it when going along the A69 around Carlisle way. I like a bit of history myself but can never get into books etc, I need to actually go somewhere and see something for it to go in! Not too sure about riding it but if you ever fancy an away day oop nurth for a walk along some of it and other touristy things, gis a shout! Wouldn't mind a look myself and with you being a bit of a nerd, you could ejumacate me too.. It's one of those things I've always said I'd do Jay. Would have preferred to ride it obvs, but as that is now not possible I'd walk it. Must be one of the most atmospheric historical sites in this country. I often wonder what it was like for some poor Roman legionary, posted at the arse end of the empire, maybe thousands of miles from home and stood on the wall in winter, looking out into the unknown lands beyond the wall, cold and miserable and wondering what the locals were up to. They've even found letters miraculously preserved up on the wall from Legionaries to their families back home in the warm Med. asking for extra socks to be sent to them...bloody fascinates me and my imagination would run riot up there walking the same places those long ago soldiers did....

Sounds like you watched last nights episode of " The Pennine Way " on BBC 1 ? It featured the Roman Wall ..and the very parchments you have been mentioning . I particularly liked the one for the Chinese takeaway in Corbridge ! Lol If you do head this way ...remember to bring your bike ..you can mix and match your days ...
