Needed some new tyres and after reading the thread on here re ardent/minion combo thought I would do my sheep impression and follow. To be honest whatever tyres I have had, have made no difference to me.
Coming back off the Chase today on the way home there is a very short, very steep hill that I always try to get up and ALWAYS fail, whatever bike I'm on. I lose traction 80% of the way up and off I get to push up the last bit. Until today. I flew up, never missed a beat.
So, one of two things has happened - a) I have become an (even more) awesome rider. b) the combo, or at least the Ardent on the back really work.
I know what your thinking, your thinking it's a) and you may well be right but I have a sneaking feeling it might be a bit of b) as well.

I actually wasn't sure initially Will and was thinking I might go back to NN's. The last couple of rides though have convinced me that I will be sticking with this combo. Perfect mix of grip up front and fast rolling rear, IMO.

I`ve had the same combo on for almost 2 weeks and can`t tell any difference from the hans dampf that they`ve replaced.mind you,all I`ve done is wheel it from one side of the mancave to the other
deffo going to gie them a run out at the weekend,i`m just hoping they turn me into a riding god, just like that there `will the hill`.
**edit** no I`m not ,I`m running dhf exo 3c on front.

Got the Minion DH FR TR evo etc etc on the front and it's confidence inspiring. TBF the test bike had a High Roller II on the front and that felt just as good.

HD's are a great tyre and I'm sticking with them on the Chief but they are draggy compared to the Minion/Ardent so for the HT it's a no brainer.

I`ve just put a pair of onza ibex on the cotic.i bought them the back end of last year and ran them on the bandit for a few rides til the weather started to make things a bit damp.they`re really a high roller clone but performrd well in the dry and were far less draggy than the hd`s.

100% I love the ardent on the rear on the new bike, in feel so fast and the grip is great from the high roller up front, never trusted a bike so much. I was a little sceptical at first with 2 different tyres but it's just works. I will be sticking to my combo for sure. May try the minion up front when high roller wears out.

I'm still running a Maxxis Crossmark on the front ...Ardent on the rear and didn't change them out at all through " winter" . I will give the minions a try up front when I need to replace ...just to see what all the fuss is about .

Looking at the two bikes last night...the Ardent on the rear of the Zero and the HD on the rear of the Chief - the difference in size is quite remarkable - ardent looks tiny! so it's obvious where the drag comes from.
Having said that I won't change from the HD's on the Chief - yes the pedalling is harder but the grip the HD's give me on the Chief is superb, trust them 100%.
On the Zero though the combo of Minion/Ardent stays too - Minion feels about the same as the HD but the Ardent is the big difference, very fast and fairly grippy.
I s'pose what I'm saying in a rambling kind of way is it's horses for different courses, innit? The kind of riding I do on the Chief is different to what I do on the Zero - so it kind of works as it is.
