How do you decide what rim width you need?
I know that the wider the rim the more 'spread out' the tyre will be meaning (apparently) better grip..
Is that all that needs to be considered?
Cheers

Weight, strength, and the style you ride, if you're an all out AM God (like me) a bit of extra girth gives you more strength and grip. If you're a an XC boy with a dodgy phone, that doesn't work with Strava.. And refuses to record double dogs... Then you might consider general or normal rims!...

I'm thinking of 30mm external width for my Mega which is roughly the same as the Flows I have on now! would 35mm be OTT?
I like the idea of chunky rims! They'll suit the frame better I think..

wider the rim the squarer the tyre will sit which means more straight line grip. Also it depends how wide your tyres are you cant put massively wide rims with skinny tyres an vice a versa.
