thinking of a cutgate ride next Monday 8th june.conditions should be perfect.its considered to be a 'proper' mtb ride with a bit of everything. theres a bit of hike-a-biking at the start of the first climb, which means some steep and technical descending coming the other way.

On Tuesday the 9th I go off to Cairngorms for 3 days of biking around actual mountains, including a munro. Not actually done a mountain on my mountain bike yet. I will have to save Cutgate for another day

just wondering what would be the best alternative. coming over the woodhead A628 would be ok but when you get to langsett its a bit of a roundabout way to ladybower.we could always start from langsett and do it in the opposite direction but then its longer for andy to get to. then theres the alternative coming from chapel en le frith on the A6 and coming through castleton. its swings and roundabouts [edit] looks like coming round the south side of Manchester to chapel en le frith then castleton wouldn't be that much different

If I'm heading castleton/hope way i head up the M60 to Stockport pyramid J1, then go up the A6 through Hazel grove to Chapel then do a left towards Castleton. It takes me 1hr 20mins from J4 of the M61 but that's on a quiet Sunday morning. The other way is around the M60 to the M67 and drop into Glossop then do a right across to Hayfield/Chapel that's the same about 1hr 20mins on a Sunday.
I've just spoke to my bro in law who lives in Hyde and works in Sheffield and he uses Woodhead everyday, he said yesterday was a nightmare there and back with miles of traffic.
If it was me I'd head the Hazel grove A6 way and start in Hope and postpone your cutgate ride for a couple of weeks.

I'm thinking I might be better just sticking to a local loop as I have this www.samhoughtonchallenge.co.uk/long-course.html the Saturday after

Certainly is macky. I think middlemoor especially is one of my favorite peaks trails

Definitely, fast and flowy with a nice rocky seat of the pants finish down to the stream, love it!
