I have the new XTR 11 Speed M9000 , cassette , Rear mech and Shifter . i have tried everything to get gears running and shfiting perfectly and they do ..they never skip but god damn everytime i shift into the 38 or 40th tooth (biggest sprocket) it makes a very loud snapping noise and even when changing down too its very clunky .. its only smooth shifting on the first 6 or 7 sprockets and down the last 6 or 7 . but after that its very clunky and snappy sounding and dont sound healthy . i have stripped it all and cleaned cassette and cassette is fine (about 150 miles use if that ) .
my missis mondeaker has 3x10 x9 rear mech and x7 shifter and its buttery smooth compared to my XTR 11 speed . something cant be right .
Anybody have any ideas that they know of .

Thanks Timbo it has helped a great deal .still not buttery smooth but this could be the chain as it might be a link to long and it also helped easing off the clutch tension screw . Will post a pic of the chain on top sprocket .

as tim says, check B screw tension to make sure inside of mech cage is not fouling the largest sprocket on cassette.

more b tension, and for me another link needed in the chain, it seems to short as rear mesh is forward without any travel on rear suspension

more b tension, and for me another link needed in the chain, it seems to short as rear mesh is forward without any travel on rear suspension damn thats how the chain came as i didn't take any links out .. 114 links i think it has . this is how it is now after timbo told me about the b tention screw and its a lot better and shifts good but on a trail riding up rock garden it dont feel smooth .

Chain looks about right to me, maybe a smidgen on the long side. Take a photo of the position of your top jockey wheel when its in its top cog.
Other things that spring to mind, mech mounting bolt tight, mech hanger bolts tight, mech hanger straight, cassette tightened up properly on the hub (wobbly larger cogs?), cassette bearings got any slop (cassette wobbling as one), wheel tightened up properly, all your cables seated properly in their guides, any cable kinks inside or outside the inner, stiff links in the chain?

will have another good look in the morning as done mabie forest again today and its only when in the top cog if i pedal back on the crank the chain drops down a gear .. very annoying and i can remember i did take 2 links out of the chain when i fit it so maybe needs more b screw tension . nothing wobbly .its defo something to do with the top jockey nearest to the largest cog . will take a pic in the morning . might even buy a better chain .

Chainline
