The point is? I cracked a couple of ribs too - so does that mean the 100 to 120 roadies killed every year or the 19,000 injured on the road bikes are safer because we can't ride a mtb very well? MEGALOLZ  |

Why are peeps so worried about riding on the roads, or maybe it is just me. I dont have a problem although I do live in a semi rural area so not dense traffic but it can travel at high speed (than it should) on some of the country roads. I worry more when Im out on my MTB in the dales on my own as if/when I wipe out Im totally on my own and not always within a phone signal (if I could access it) Shelfie - you're kidding, right? either that or you go around with your eyes and ears closed. The stats are out there, cyclists are killed or badly injured on the roads daily - it's on telly all the time, my roadie mates are always having close shaves. MTBing is a lot, lot safer than riding a road bike, that's just a fact mate. I'd rather crash into a tree than be dragged under the wheels of a bus or a HGV and have my pelvis smashed to pieces...hang on, actually I'd rather have neither I appreciate the differences to riding in cities and towns and to the country side, but also the need to be spatially aware of what is around you. maybe coz I cycle that Im aware of cylists on the roads (I drive on every conceivable type of road each day, towns, cities and country). But also in a cycling city like York, some cyclists must think that are invincible and fly in and out of traffic, no lights, helmets, hands in pockets etc etc. BTW on a group roadie ride yesterday, some car drivers where mental on the narrow country roads where I live. |

Cyclist have a lot to blame for getting them selfs knocked off killed ... As well not always the car van lorry drivers fault.. We had one a couple of years a go on the A4 Newbury way ... Our truck was driving down the A4 when the cyclist came straight off the path in front of the truck ... Unfortunately the cyclist died .. The driver I no very well is still having nightmares. About it 3/4 years later .. I ride on the rode and I know a lot of roadies that still ride on the road ... They are still here riding .. I even ride the Mtb on the road you can minimise the risk as best you can . You can be killed as easy walking down the street crossing the road you can be killed driving down the road .. In your car . I lost my late father in law in a car crash hit a dust cart .. (Xwifes dad ) seen friends killed on motor bikes but when we was racing round at 100 plus mph every where you are bring your life to an end quicker , I've stacked it at high speed on a bike been lucky some of my mate weren't .. So you can't say you will die if you ride a bike on the road . Far to simple an answer it's about risk... And putting your self at risk .. When your numbers up its up simples ... Wot about that little girl riding up Cannock who had a heartattack ... You and plez saw her , was she riding on the road !!!! The poor little girls number was up ...  ( and life is not fair when someone so young is taken like that ) So im sorry guys you can't just turn round and say if you ride on the road you will die .. I've had some lucky escapes on Mtb when I've hit the deck only takes that wrong log tree and to land funny and bye bye ..... Flew tho the air quad racing fair few times big offs seen some massive offs and you think fuck they are dead and they get up after a 245kg quad has just rolled over them down a hill a few times .. So ride safe guys no matter wot you ride  |

I must agree Gaz some of the things I have seen roadies doing makes me cring everyone has a respectability to stay safe

Road biking for me round here is too dangerous! .. I'd have to drive out somewhere to road ride, unless I stick to cycle paths!.. No fun! I get bored very quickly!..
