This is the ride that got cancelled last month ... As it is a fair distance to get there I'm proposing a 10.30 start ..if folks are ok with that ..it's not a massive ride ..but quality . There is also the option at the end to extend it if the people demand more ! The ride starts from the church car park in Torver grid ref : SD 28 94. Torver is accessed on the A593 beyond Coniston in SW Lakeland . A bit of flesh on the bones ...you will need a map to follow this .turn left out of the car park then left again on to the A508 ..a couple of pedal strokes then immediately right heading towards Moor Farm turning left on the b/way to go around Park Ground .follow the B/way over Torver Low Common / Stable Harvey Moss to a minor road turning right and then right again on an FP ( naughty bit ) over Brown Howe to Water Yeat . Turn right onto the A5084 to Blawith and then right again onto a minor road to pass Houkler Hall turning first right again onto a track which we follow to a T junction where it is straight over on a bridleway which we follow to a Y junction after a stream and branch left to take us to Spunham and on to the road where we turn left to climb stiffly for about 1km to turn right onto a bridleway and drop down to Fell Gate . At the road turn left then left again to climb steeply up to a bend in the road where we take the bridleway straight ahead follow this to a road and straight over to Birch Bank following the track towards Tottlebank bearing left off it on another naughty FP just prior to getting there . This links us in to a b/ way where we turn left having already been on this today . At the Y junction this time we turn right towards Green Moor but branching off right again on another b/way to take us to Haverrigg Holme . This is decision time ..head back to Torver or go over the road and explore some of the Dunnerdale Fells ...and there is also some fantastic riding to be had there ! I'm bloody dizzy after writing that !!

Graham , Dave & Jean , myself ..with 3 maybe's going so far ..anyone else out there in mtb-uk land want to join us ? It's a great ride ..as most of the " low level " lakes rides are . That doesn't mean you won't get a good work out either up or down !

Improved weather ...sunshine & clouds 19c . Without adding anymore to the route " over the road " ..It roughly works out to be 30km ( 18.75 miles)

If the weather holds out it would seem a shame not to... I've looked at map and looks like a myriad of route choices over there. I'm just off to have my leg checked by a nurse. Ooo err missus, that just seems the wrong way round somehow, or I going a bit Sid James in my old age..!

Another brilliant day out today . Fantastic weather ..and all worries that I might have had about the trails being trashed were completely blown away ( I had read reports that trail bikes had done some damage in this area ..but didn't see any evidence at all ) ..they were even better than I remembered ! There are some really stiff climbs ..but the downhill sections are more than enough reward ..grassy & rocky with streams & knee high bracken which hides the trail keeps your attention all the way down ..all good !! Even the climbs ( did I really say that ) I'm a firm believer that the best riding in the Lake District is well away from the high mountain passes ..and this ride proves it Sublime ...

A few pics Graham, Russell..and if I'm not mistaken that could be Dave's recently purchased tyre ..look at those knobbles! Taken on Torver Low Fell. My viewranger app decided to disappear from my screen ..so we had to revert to a good old map ..Graham , Dave & Russell ..location check on Woodland Fell . The legal bridleway drops on the other side of this climb..first to Spunham and then later to Green Moor are worth the trip all on their own ! Jean & Dave ..with the Walna Scar Road & the Old Man of Coniston in the distance Russell & Dave climbing the cheekie FP from Tottlebank ...sssshhh Jean, Dave , Russell ..soaking in the views ... ..that's it ..Jean might send me a few of her pics which I will post up ..but you really should add this ride to your " to do list "...you wouldn't regret it !

Brilliant ride with some awesome single track for high speed descents. A part of the lakes I had not ridden before and would recommend. Another highlight of the day was seeing a captive Golden Eagle which had just been flown a truly beautiful bird, we hustled in on what was probably a costly experience for the falconers clients. The comical moment of the day was when Neil being offered some sun tan lotion proceeded to apply it and in doing so forgot he was holding on to the bottle and turned it upside down giving Graham's rugsack a liberal application, you had to be there - so funny. Back to the riding, it was superb and unlike a lot of lakes rides, being mostly grassy tracks with the odd rocky bits to keep you on your toes. As usual many thanks to Neil for organising and navigating with Grahams maps, glad someone brought them, despite the loss of a certain app. Great banter as well and credit to Russell who had a mini adventure camping in his car the night before. Another brilliant day spent on a mountain bike.

Hahaha...I thought I'd got away with the " sun lotion incident " but should have known better ... His camelback had a lovely golden tan though by the end of the day ! One of those " what a donkey " moments ..but yeah ..very funny ! My own personal favourite was when Graham was relieving himself against a stonewall and without thinking I said " there's the Old Man " ..meaning of Coniston ..and wondered why everyone was in stitches ... Edit: I also thought that it was hilarious upon exiting the pub to find Russell & Jean in earnest conversation completely oblivious to the fact that an elderly couple in a car had pulled up alongside them and were desperately trying to get there attention while a long line of cars were building up behind them ..last straw being when I came out and started talking he looked in the mirror at the traffic building up and in frustration just drove off ...
