Knowing that I would be close to passing it on the way back from a business trip to Durham this afternoon ..I packed bike and kit in the car to do one of my favourite rides in the North East There is a full loop to this ride ..but today it was only ever going to be the " there & back " option from Edmundbyers . What this entails is a 7km climb to the gate & trig point at the top of Bolts Law ..then a fantastic blast back . As the track is mainly rocky & constantly changing if there is wet weather it gives you a chance to scope it on the way up ...I love this trail ..and if any of you lot were to make your way up to this part of the world it would probably be the first one I would take you on Some pics This is early in to the gradual climb ..looking back towards Edmundbyers This is my favourite tree ...anywhere ! There is nothing particularly special about it save for the fact that it is in the middle of what can be a wind swept & desolate moor and it's the only tree for miles . It seems that a lot of people feel the same way as it always gets decorated with tinsel & baubles in December ..daft as it might seem I always say hello to it on the way past ... Looking back down the trail ..nearing the top ..in a few mins time I will be clattering back down this The gate at the top of Bolts Law ..the superb singletrack carries on beyond The trig point And when you turn to go back ..the start of 7 km of mainly down singletrack heaven There are loads of features to hold your interest ..this stream is near to Edmundbyers ..trickier than it looks as when you drop into it there is that lump in the middle to get over then more water and a sharp tug up to exit ..I have varying success depending on how much water there is ! The ride took 1.5 hours to get to the top ..mainly due to the fact that there was a very strong easterly wind blowing straight at me on the way up ..but knowing this I also knew that it would be on my back on the way down ...28mins to return ..it was superb !

That's a great ride, both the whole 25 mile loop or just the run up and down the hill.
Au natural at its best.

Looks great and even included a bike leaning on a fence photo. I'm only human Andy ..and with the struggle against the Easterly wind the old girl needed something to lean against ...and I didn't dare lie her down for fear that she wouldn't get back up ! Edit : don't know if this still counts as a " gunner " pic ..but that's actually a gate ....is this better or worse ?

Looks like a cracking ride that mate, although I'm about jealous of how much you seem to be out on the bike, mines upside down in the garage awaiting bloody parts, and has been for best part of 2weeks.

Looks like a wicked descent. if you include in the loop, whats the rest of the loop like?
Roundie did you order from JeJAmes, the stores are good but stock control and despatch leaves a lot to be desired.
have you contacted ATB sales (the whyte distributors) directly? I needed a weird little Whyte specific part which was a small barrel bolt that the brake caliper screwed into and was held in the dropout, I couldn't find them on line but they gave the part reference and told me where I would find them in stock.

Kirky ...in a word ..wicked ! There is a climb out of Blanchland and then a fast drop to Slaley Forest ..some more excellent singletrack along the Carriers Way ...there is a grind of a climb out of Baybridge on the Rookhope road ..that goes on and on but it is scenic and the return over Bolts Law and back to Edmundbyers is more than enough reward You would love it !

It really is a joke that spare parts take so bloody long to arrive, bikes completely useless. Can you order directly from ATB?

Unfortunately they wont sell direct. If your Dewsbury guy cant confirm why don't you see if Jejames have them in stock or can guarantee when and knock the other on the head, I would pick them up from Rotehrham store though rather than wait for them to post out again.

I can feel a trip up that way coming on sometime soon. Hopefully meeting somebody up near Gretna way one day next week (a sunny day) and will have a look at Langholm.

Just spoke to the guy at ATB turns out that my LBS had not known what I was after so wrote a description down that ATB couldn't understand!! Anyway after speaking to the guy he said because of the long wait and that i'd been messed around he's going to waive the fee for them. Very nice as I wasn't complaining at him, just the LBS being crap. Bolts should be here tomorrow so it's all good, he's even throwing in some aircraft grade nuts so they won't come loose anymore.

ATB are sending them to the shop I originally ordered them from, should have asked them to post directly to me. The next battle will be if the shop tries to charge me for the parts. I'm pissed off with the shop because if I'd never had chased ATB up how long would they have waited.
