I am looking at getting Garmin for both recording my rides and also doing some route following.
I have been looking at the Edge Touring plus but there have been mixed reviews mainly regarding the fact it wont follow an off road route on the map that comes with it.
The device is very similar to the 810, what maps are people using to navigate off road?
I see the TOPO map is only £20 will this sort the problem out? Cheers Alan

can only advise on the one I have, which is the Oregon 450. others in the montana and Dakota range I think are pretty similar in the way they work. just to say that personally I much prefer to have a dedicated device rather than using smart phone app, as I prefer to keep my fone's battery for making calls. I like the Oregon (bought as a bundle with full o.s. 1/50000 uk mapping on a micro sd card for £200 from gpstraining based in the north east).the only real issue I have is that after quite a bit of browsing forums and websites, it seems that these devices are not very good at recording actual ascent and descent. as an example if I plot a ride using basecamp (free mapping software from garmin) and say the total ascent on the route is 3000ft,i can expect that the actual recorded ascent riding the exact same route will show up to 30% more ascent, usually about 3700ft.iv taken this issue up with garmin uk based in Southampton and its still on going but im really not expecting the issue to be resolved. I think its just to nature of these types of devices. everything else works fine.
