Hi Guys, My first post although been viewing the forums for a while.
Was wondering if anyone has done the Cut Gate Path Route? Me and 2 friends are planning on going early tomorrow morning. Trying to make the most of the good weather as i have read it is a route to only really be done when dry. Anyway anything in particular to watch out for? Any route tips? We will be setting off from the Langsett end.
Cheers Marc

I'm not local to it Marc ..but I've got to say it's one of my favourite trails in the whole of the country ..and myself and others in our riding group have made the pilgrimage down there from NW Northumberland 3 times now and have been really lucky that the trails were dry & dusty each time! I'm assuming you are doing a there & back towards Ladybower ..in which case you are saving the best til last ( in my opinion)..you will see as you are climbing what you've got to look forward to on the way back... I'll let the peaks experts put more detail down (if they are around ) ..but have a great ride ...you can't fail but to enjoy it !

hi marc.....its a brilliant mtb ride when conditions are right. I did it meself about a month ago with andy (forum member).there was a section near the top where it was job walking thro, let alone riding (only about 10 yards),which is unusual at this time of year with the mostly dry weather we've had recently. personally I prefer the descent at the ladybower end which is more technical, whereas the mickelden edge descent towards langsett is one that's as fast and flowy as you dare make it, make sure to keep your concentration up or it'll bite the descent to ladybower (actually its the neck-end of howden dam) splits as it gets rocky, the left hand hairpin keeps to the bridleway, whereas if you go straight ahead it takes the footpath (cheeky) but its the best , most techy drop to the stream at the bottom.......................ENJOY! BTW if you feel fit and hungry for more you can extend the ride at the ladybower end by as much as you like by taking in any of the best bits round there.

did you have a bit of a spill yesterday and bugger your shoulder? Hi, Yes that was one of my friends! How did you know? From my friends post on the "other" forum?! It was a lot harder ride than we was expecting. We set off from Langsett. Very technical climbs, with all the rocks/boulders etc. We tagged along with a guy we met ( Jason) great guy told us what to expect etc and just down from the cairn, on the descent my friend tried hopping the front wheel out of one of the ruts and it flicked him off and landed quite badly on his right shoulder. So we pushed/ slowly rode back from there. We will definitely be going again soon as we now know what to expect! We took my mate to a&e and he had a 4hr wait and luckily he hadn't broken any bones only ligaments. IMG_4617 by marc rowlands, on Flickr IMG_4600 by marc rowlands, on Flickr Cheers

yes mate,i have a peep now and again, mainly in the for sale section I`ve done that ride from langsett 3 times in the last 6-7 weeks.last time I stacked it at the bottom of cranberry clough on the last right hander before the stream.funnily enough it`s the exact same place I baled out the first time I did that ride about 4 years ago
