Better than Shimano
Cheaper than Shimano
Proper 10-42 cassette
I was a die hard Shimano drivetrain fan....... Until I tried SRAM.
I find SRAM smoother, quieter, quicker.
Don't dismiss the SRAM GX range in favour of Shimano's XT 11 speed range until you've spent time on a SRAM equipped bike!

My last 2 bikes have all been X01 equipped so I know how good SRAM's 11 speed systems are GX is cheaper than XT on CRC (the bible of bike bits). Unless I'm looking wrong which, to be honest, is a distinct possibility..

I'm going for sram x1 11 speed rear derailleur and shifter with shimano xt 11 speed cassette on my next build. Just waiting for crc to get them in stock.

I already have the wheels and dont want to fork out for the xd driver. I also have sram x1 crank and guide brakes. If it doesn't work I will sell the sram stuff and go for xt instead.

XT M8000 is more expensive by a pound, it comes in at £299 where as GX comes in at £298. With the XT system you don't need to buy an XD driver for the freehub, that normally costs around £60 so will bump the price of GX up to around £360

TBF the only reason I'm going with the Shimano XT is I won't have to change anything on the Chief - I THINK I'm right in saying if I went Sram I'd have to get a hub convertor and possibly new cranks? Or I could be talking rubbish again.

Or I could be talking rubbish again. You'd only need the XD driver, cranks are all interchangeable between SRAM and Shimano

In my mind, Shimano not needing a 'special' one is a big plus for them.

People being people will mostly, and automatically, go toward Shimano without giving a second thought to SRAM. I don't think there is any danger of Shimano's XT 11 speed stuff being 'dismissed'. There current XT 10 speed range is the most popular in the world, no doubt the 11 speed stuff will be the same!

And I meant the dismissal in general. Not just concerning 11 speed.

I think you make a very good point Mr Toast. I'm not sure your blend of common sense, logical and fair minded posts will catch on around here though.

M'eh, I hadn't tried the 11spd SRAM stuff, but I did have a load of 10spd, all of which decided to pack up on me at once. Moved over to Shimano and didn't have any problems what so ever. My XTR kit is awesome and if the XT is even half as good it'll be a winner.
