Well its been a while since we have done this loop ...so its time to re-visit...always a favourite its got some extra added "naughty bits "this time .
Meet at the start of the "Lead Mining Trail " in Edmundbyers at 10.00...and although early in the ride a visit to the White Monk Tea Rooms in Blanchland is almost compulsory !
Open to all ...theres even a rumour that a new lass might well be joining us ...

Jeans looking forward to having Ingrid for some female company Ant, can't say I blame her, its been some time since she's had female company. Shes had to put up with male dominated conversation for some time now. Weather looks good too see you all tomorrow. :-)

Joking apart I'm also happy for her ..but also sad that I'm going to have to be on my best behaviour ...well at least I will try to be !

Having not had the best of summers so far it seems that our merry band of mountain bikers have a happy knack of picking glorious days to go riding ...I might well be suffering from memory loss but I just can't recall the last time it rained on us on one of our group rides ...this being no exception ..it had everyone reaching for the sun tan lotion prior to starting !
I've got to say straight away that whatever doubts the new girl, Ingrid ( Ants wife ) , had about not being technically proficient ..were quickly dispelled ..she tackled everything with a smile on her face ..and no little skill..Jean and herself were setting the pace and were blowing everyone out of the water on the climbs and while a little cautious on the techy downs there was nothing that had her beaten ..a very impressive gutsy debut ! Welcome to the group!
The ride itself was as good as ever ..the trails in the main dry & dusty & fast ...it was also Russell's first time over Bolts Law ..which is an amazing fact given that he only lives 3-4 miles away as the crow flies ..as usual he attacked it with relish !
Talking of flying there was a fantastic sight at the first stream crossing upon leaving Edmundbyers ..3 red kites circling overhead " hunting " ..one of them attacked a small bird that came too close and passed straight over us ..head pointed down ! That's the closest I've been to one ..some size ..and I'm grateful that I didn't become it's breakfast ..
I don't know about anyone else ..but I felt totally knackered last night ..it maybe had something to to with my comedy OTB ..I'm definitely aching in some different places ..
I have a few pics to post ..again nothing spectacular ..but I did notice Jean taking a few snaps ..and Graham had a mischievous look on his face ..so there maybe some revenge Teletubbies pics coming that I was unaware of ..
But just remember that being the case that they have probably been " doctored " in photo-shop !
Once again many thanks to my riding buddies it's a great bunch of people who gel so well ..and for those who can't make next weeks ride in " foreign " territory ..will see you all again in two weeks time for Ants suggested ride around the Simonside Hills & Rothbury ..details of which will be posted at some stage by Ant.

A few pics .... The start of the ride ..the " Lead Mining Trail " Edmundbyers. What starts as farm double-track soon transforms itself into some of the best singletrack these parts have to offer  The Carriers Way L-R Graham,Ingrid,Paul,Jean,Russell,Ant & Dave  This is a pleasant footpath on the south side of the river between Blanchland and Baybridge ..the alternative being a Tarmac link-up section..to my mind stuff like this should all be re-graded into bridleway .. Ant ..sporting what at first glance appears to be an impressive ( handlebar ..what else ! ) moustache ..  Dave ....  Ingrid & Jean  That's it ! If you want to see the good stuff you will have to join us for a ride ..no one stops to take pics on the "tasty" bits ! |

Another great ride and special thanks to Jean for looking after Ingrid for the day , She really enjoyed it and can't wait for Rothbury , she sends her apologies t o Jean for holding her up

You've won today's star prize ..an inner tube which needs a slight repair ..collect it from around the flower tub at the front of the White Monk Tea Room in Blanchland ..(it's still there ) !
