I got conned by my 12 yr old son this week into transporting him and his bike up to his mate's at Falstone ( nr.Kielder ) ..for what I was led to believe was just a bit of local riding .. When I got there ..2more of his mates were there and they had planned to do the red route down from sky-space at Kielder ...which involved two more parents transporting them up to Kielder..from there they planned to ride back down the Lakeside Way back to Falstone . Not having ever done any of this before ..and in my opinion being no where near ready for a " red " a compromise was reached where they agreed to do only the Lakeside Way back to Falstone ..12 miles ..and in my opinion they were still under prepared in terms of equipment and supplies ( water / food etc) ..and it would be a long walk if they got a flat as they neither had a tube nor the knowledge as to how to change it anyway if this should occur! Sensing their disappointment I foolishly said that if they managed this/ enjoyed it that I would take them around the Osprey trail ( blue ) this next week .... Well they breezed it ...and I now have the pleasure of a 14 a 13 and two 12 year old boys for company next Wednesday ...that' ll teach me !

Hodgy, keeping it real with his homies - innit. Never had you down as an Akela. Bet you'll love it, but I wouldn't want to be carrying your Hawg when it's loaded with all the nippers supplies and spares!

It will be fun, my lad came out with us last week full of bravado as he was riding with the oldies, which soon disappeared after 10k and changed to solid determination after 20k. as soon as my mates headed off at the end he almost had to walk the last hill

I cant think of anything worse than being stuck in the middle of no where with a group of teenage girls. I should know, I have 2 of them

Well I should have kept my mouth shut ..but you know what ..I'm really glad that I didn't ! I've had a great day with my boy and his mates who were a real pleasure to be with ! I also had my eyes opened as to what they were capable of ..the Osprey Trail at Kielder is a blue route..but really a red in nature only lacking "features" Well done to Lewis ( 15 ) , Kian ( 14 ) Cam ( 12 ) & Alex (12 ) ..you were all pretty awesome A few pics At the Trail Head L to R Lewis , Cam , Kian , Alex. Cooling down for 5 ...having done a fair bit of climbing to get to this point ..this is the start of the singletrack climb to the top of Hill 361 ..( 361 m today's high point ) [/URL
At the top ..bait time

And these are the boys launching off the top of Hill 361 on the fast and flowing singletrack descent Kian Cam Lewis Alex Worth mentioning too that Kian did this on a single-speed " stunt " bike .. They all did brilliantly ..really surprised me with their level of skill ..and my thanks was seeing the amount of enjoyment they got out of it ..the next generation ! Would I do it again ..no problem at all ! Edit : not to be short changed the lads were keen to mention that they had done the extended 15 mile route ..not the piddly 8 mile one !

Looks a funny bike that of Kian's with upside down bars. What kind of stunts/riding is it intended for?

It's funny how natural fit youngsters are, takes me back to how we use to ride our bmxs after months off them and be able to cram out 20 30 mile rides with no gears, small wheels and never heard of camelbak a or even taking a drink with us.
Nice photos by the way, great scenery.

Cheers Kirky .. I haven't a clue regarding Kian's bike ..I know that the bars are bent ! I've just been down to the village & bumped into him & Lewis ( who are still out on their bikes ) ..he tells me that he has just ordered some new bars ... They are both still buzzing..lol

Haha ...that wouldn't surprise me Andy ! Yeah he is a big unit ..they all are really for their ages ..saying that Cam has a bit of growing to do as Alex towers above him and they are only a week apart in age ..but his Dad is tall so he will probably shoot up eventually . Good lads though ..no bother at all ..and grateful that an old git had taken the time to show them around ...

Looks good that - seen plenty of Dad's 'n lads this week up the Chase, sport is booming and the future looks good with all the young riders - the new Mokka even has an integral bike rack as standard now - just shows how the whole biking thing is taking off.
*puts a new Vauxhall Mokka on Crimbo list*

Correct Jay ! I wouldn't go for the Mokka either but I do like the equivalent Ford ..the Kuga ..even without the bike rack...
