I have mentioned this event previously ...but time is moving on and just thought I would remind those of you who like a BIG challenge As the title would suggest it is over a distance of 101 not miles but Kilometres...99% off road on mainly singletrack surface ..it takes in trails at both Kielder & Newcastleton crossing the English / Scottish border twice . I'm not hard enough to tackle this ..but I will be marshalling ( along with one or two others from our group? ) ..so if anyone is coming off here ..I'll buy you a beer ! Here is a link with a video of the type of terrain you can expect ... www.seismic-events.co.uk/k10km1.htmlHope to see one or two of you there ...

Well ..the day is nearly here ... I'm heading up to Kielder this afternoon to help with registration. I do know a couple of riders taking part who's identities will remain a secret until after the event ... Good luck to everyone taking part ...Saturday weather wise looks reasonable with sunshine & cloud forecast and an average temp of 13c ...

Good luck guys, no way I can manage this I'm still not quite up to doing the MTL at a mere 47miles only about 7000ft climbing.

Apparently next year if this has been deemed to be successful ..it may well revert to being.100 miles ..not Km.!! This was the distance of the original races which attracted huge numbers of competitors ...

A great day and a very well organised event which everyone seemed to enjoy ..not least the lucky bugger who won the Genesis Fat Bike in the raffle at the end ... Good to see Colin ( CBM) who was also marshalling ..although due to our different locations it was only at the beginning 6.30am and at the end 6.00pm for a few mins ! br]The winner came in at around 4h.45m ...and was a good way ahead of the rest of the field ( how the f**k can anyone be that quick!) A big congrats to our two boys Russell & Graham who were both taking part in a race for the first time ..and both completed the course..I was told their times but have forgotten them and would be doing them a disservice if I hazarded a guess I seem to remember Russell saying that he finished 108th out of an original starting field of about 300 .one thing that I would say is that no one ..not even the the winner came screaming past me faster than him near the end on the " into the valley " black section on upper Deadwater ..with most riders taking the easier right option ..rather than the fearsome drop off ..which Russell took one handed while smoking a cigar !! ..a bit of local knowledge on your home turf does you good ! Myself ..I had a busy afternoon as Comms link as on both marshalling points I covered ..I was on the highest ground and was constantly switching channels to relay sometimes long and complex messages ....I'm still hitting the paracetamols ! Great day though ...one or two nasty off's requiring medical attention ..but in the main trouble free ... Try it yourself next year! Russell on the " boardwalk " section of the "Lonesome Pine" ..2km + of this stuff ..ground conditions being too soft to lay anything on top ..it really took a huge chunk of the budget ( unplanned ) from the initial build My second marshalling point during a quiet time ..shit scary drop off coming up ....

Yep, I finished it. Thats all I can say. No prizes for owld bastards tho'. And I'd personally like to rip the tits of whichever riders were chucking their gel and bar wrappers on these beautiful wild hills. Hundreds of them. Despoiling the trails for everyone who follows them, not to mention the creatures who come to harm because of it. For what? Just to prove what an effin he-man you are. W***ers. I hope their bikes bite their skinny little arses.

I know you mentioned gel wrappers at the end when I caught up with you ..I hadn't quite realised the scale of the problem ..I thought it was only one or two ..and I know how much even the slightest bit of rubbish annoys you ..even though we have a standing joke when we stop for lunch where one of us throws something on the ground within sight of you ..we all share the same feelings about this and the " offending " article is always retrieved . If you haven't already I will bring this to the attention of the organisers ?

Well done boys, looks like a great day out. As for the gel/bar wrappers it really does piss me off when you see the trails littered with empty wrappers, talk about pissing on your own door step.
The thing I detest more is people who leave their old inner tubes on the trails when they've had a puncture.

I contacted the guys at Seismic Events ..and they too were appalled at the amount of rubbish left behind ..particularly as they themselves are doing a clear up after the event . Part of the rider briefing at next years event will highlight this problem ..with the warning that if anyone is seen dropping gel or bar wrappers they will be disqualified ..hopefully riders will take note of this . Other than this there has been a lot of positive feedback ...and they are really pleased with the way things went ..nice too when they take the time out to send a personal email thanking marshals for their help ...

Glad it went well, I can only echo what Graham says about these arses who drop energy drink bottles, gel wrappers - all in the name ( I can only assume) of chasing a Strava time so hard they can't even stop to pick up their own shit.
Utter knobs.

I stumbled across a free to enter 200KM Yorkshire dales event on October 3rd, two days with a bivvy/camping in the middle starting from Skipton. Doubt I can handle the distance even split over two days but seems like a good one for the XC endurance guys.

That's one step way beyond for me, I'm about 40 years beyond the whippet club. But free to enter, that's a novelty.
