An event for your diary...not yet featured on any other website!
The Big Bike Weekend : October 18/19th at The Bike Place Kielder ( opposite the Castle)
Fancy test riding one of the new 2015 range of bikes from Santa Cruz , Kona or Orange? Well now you can as all three firms will have a range of their 2015 models available to test ride on Saturday 18th October. At the time of writing this it is not yet known which exact models will be available ...further details to follow ...but Orange and Kona will both have their sales guys their and Santa Cruz will be sending Carbon versions of their Tallboy, Bronson and 5010....and others but wont be there in person. To book a ride on one of these machines get in touch with the shop at Kielder on 01434 250457...ask for Ian or Kevin...you will need to leave your credit / bank card as a security deposit while you are riding ....slots are limited so book early! In addition you will be delighted to know that this day also co-incides with the re-opening of the brand new Kersey Cleugh black section which has been closed for ages since felling operations destroyed the route...it has been extended and re-directed is bigger and better with fantastic views over Kielder village itself and the resevoir beyond ...not that you will want to take your eyes off the trail...the good news is that the demo route will be taking in this part of the trail..so you can safely say that you were one of the first to ride it... AND THERE IS MORE Some of you may know that the boys from Northern Downhill ( NDH) have also been trail building and their section of very Black singletrack is also due to open on this weekend and to celebrate the fact they too are running an event The Kielder Gravity Enduro...the entry fee is £37.00 and further details and booking can be found on their own website www.northerndownhill.co.uk ...click on the event and pay for it in their online shop. AND THERE IS STILL MORE.....Sunday 19th October 2014 Ever had a morbid curiosity as to what riding an electric full suspension bike is like....from personal experience I can tell you it is amazing and could well change your pre-conceived ideas that it is "cheating"....you still have to pedal the machine and you may well find youself pedalling harder than you ever have before ...the result being that you fly at warp speed up the hill...I will definitely move to one of these machines one day... You can wonder no more..The Haibike Full Suspension Bike will be available to test along with the Raleigh Motors Hybrid ( ladies and gents version) ...availability is even more limited as there will only be one of each of these bikes to test so booking is absoluteley essential ...with a card once again being required as a security deposit...to book your ride contact Ian or Kevin on the number above. I also hear that there maybe a bike related boot sale at the Castle ...but I have no details as yet. Hope some of you can make it along ...it would be good to meet with you. Cheers Neil

Just had a quick word with Ian Bell ( prop) of The Bike Place Kielder ..en-route to this Wednesdays night ride out of Wylam ... Who has told me that if anyone out there has a particular request for a specific bike they would like to test ride over the Big Bike Weekend .. To give him or Kevin a call ( number on first post ) .. And they will try to accommodate your request

I heard there was some people not happy with the way the enduro was ran? Think ppl were twisting about some of the stages cos they used part of the DH tracks.. ive done a few of carls (NDH) races and they're all proper mountain biking tracks none of this trail centre/man made shite

I would agree with that statement ..I was a spectator at Kidland a few years back ..the gradient was almost vertical !!

If so they need to mtfu. The NDH TT that I did earlier in the year was really well organised imo

Never any problems with uplifts either. I know they aren't as busy as SDA races but it's still well organised

Ahhhhh aye the enduro was always going to be hard for the first time the TT and the DH races are easy because it's just from A to B whereas the enduro is multiple stages with people going in ANY order lol I wouldn't fancy doing the timing!
