Thanks Colin. My initial thoughts were that would be nice but it's my first day back from holiday (get back from Wales on Friday night).
Then I remembered my oldest has mentioned many times before going to Flamingo land which is half an hour away from your meeting point and opens 9.30am so a cunning plan is starting to unfold. I'll post back if I can make it.

You will need deep pockets for Flamingo Land too ..unless you can get an " offer " from somewhere ... It is a great day out for the kids though ...

Still hoping to make this ..should get a progress report from Ian regarding my bike ( and if the bearings have arrived ) tomorrow ! He had to blow torch the old ones out ... It's pretty ironic that Nick who hasn't been with us all year is mad keen to do this .. I've been looking at the map and there seems to be a great network of trails around that area ..so fingers crossed ! As things stand ..just the four of us ( Colin ,Nick,Graham & me) + Kirky & Russell if they can make it .. I need a ride !!!

My biggest riding regret of the year was doing the Dalby red route instead of doing some natural riding around this area when I was on holiday down there in April it's a shame I can't make this ride but I'm sure we will return in the near future, have a good un

Puts it all into perspective but one of my very good friends suddenly dropped dead in the bathroom this morning. So inspired by this this ride is a definite do or sit on your arse and die Apologies to Nick for not getting back in touch but yes to lift and as am going thro Tyne tunnel then near to Cramlington or at your home Bit shit devastated at the moment but spoke to widow and son+daughter and life must go on tho leaves a big hole in my existence Younger daughter ( who has been looked after by family) came up with suggestion to get out on bikes tomorrow so hopefully Mr Bell will assist Bit gutted at the moment

Colin ..you have my sympathy and I can tell this has hit you hard ... Sometimes the loss of a close friend can be more devastating than losing a relative ..as it serves to remind us that we ourselves are only here for a very short time. It's good that you want to get out on Saturday ..and I will do my best to be there .. I will also get in touch with Nick ..he never comes on the forum so won't be aware ... Thoughts are with you ...

Deepest sympathy for your very sad news Colin. Can only add my agreement to what Neil said.
I've been getting quite weirdly sad that my 'beloved' HDi 306 has just been diagnosed as economically kaput due to a hidden wiring harness failure. Stupid to feel any emotional reaction to something like this when people are suffering and friends are suffering real loss. It is merely an inconvenience which will be solved by application of £££.

Sorry ..looks like I'm out of this ride ! The bearings that have been sent are the wrong ones ..so no bike ( no I'm not asking Ian ) Apologies ( I am totally pissed off !!) That also means of course no ride for the following week as I am marshalling at the Kielder 101 . I will be taking off somewhere mid week next week as I'm a very grumpy bear ..once I get the bike back ..maybe even down to ride in this area

Ok .. Latest is that I will have my bike back on Monday . Ian has said that he would be interested in doing this ride on the Tuesday ..so if Saturday suits you still that's fine but I might just pick your brains as to where you went over the phone if that's ok ?

As my car is not safe to drive that far I was going to be relying on a lift with you Neil. Unless I can get a new car tomorrow then I will not be there.
I thought I had found a car today, in fact I put a deposit down. Then I spoke to the Peugeot diesel tech (who is going to buy my 306 and fix it himself in spare time) and told him I'd bought a Focus 1.6 Zetec TDCi, he said "Don't touch them with a barge pole!!". Google "Focus 1.6 Zetec TDCi blown turbo's" and I saw what he meant. Ford have a Tech Service Bulletin which basically says a blown turbo means a new engine will be needed. Mechanics run out the back door when they see one coming in. All to do with poor oil circulation, sludge and carbon from leaking injector seals gumming up oilways. So I have asked for my deposit back. They were not happy, but have agreed (I think... he did slam the phone down at the end)
Back to square one, so no far away ride for me this weekend either.

Funnily enough I have been lusting at the new RS Focus ..but I suppose that's at the other end of the scale .. I did have the 1.6 focus diesel for a short while a good few years back and was well impressed ..

RS Focus certainly sounds nice! But it is definitely at the other end of the £££ scale from my own budget... The one I (nearly) bought was £2690 @ 103,000 miles, clean bodywork and interior, nice colour, no rattles, squeaks or squeals, and the motor felt really smooth and quick. Suspension felt very comfortable and it handled quite well, a bit more body roll than the 306 which rails corners with no body roll at all (but with a pretty hard ride as the payoff). I can push my budget to £5-6 k.. (but the less I spend on a motor the more I can spend on the next bike of course... priorities!) My saved search list at the moment has; Kia C'eed, Astra, Octavia, Focus or C-Max 2L TDCi (apparently bulletproof unlike the 1.6 and 1.8) Pug 407 (but not 1.6 HDi 307... same motor as the Zetec above. Golf's possibly, but dearer usually, as are the Skoda and Ford diesels it seems. It's a bloody minefield and I'm not great at decisions, this has been proven... :-( Ah well.

Didn't say I was going for it ..it's not out yet anyway ! Just lusting ..but might give a 2yr old model some thought when I replace mine ! Good luck with the search ..no advice from me I'm afraid I'm too much of a sucker when it comes to cars !

No reply to two emails sent to Colin regarding this ride..( I just want to know if you still intend going ..not for my sake ..but to keep other people informed !) As things stand due to circumstances beyond my control ..I'm out so too Graham and Nick has indicated he would prefer to go with us next week . While getting a progress report from Ian at the bike shop as to when my bike would be ready ( Monday ) ..I mentioned that I would still like to do this ride and was going to go by myself on Wednesday ..I received a voicemail later in the day asking if I could make it on Tuesday and he would join me ..which I agreed to . Because Nick has no internet access I have had to keep him informed by txt as to what is going on ( without really knowing ) ...and he has said that he would now prefer to go on the Tuesday ..at this point I am not aware of anyone else joining us ..but short of knowing what Colin , Kirky or Russell intend doing I am not sure if this ride is still going ahead on Saturday .. Over to you Colin ...
EDIT : 7:00am Just heard from Russell who has said that he can still make Saturday and has offered a lift to Graham ..but can't make a mid week ride ( understood ) So Colin ..could you please confirm your intentions ..thank you . Graham if this is still going ahead could you liaise with Russell directly ..good luck all ..that's me now out of this thread !

Excellent communication mr hodgy. But I suspect not quite out of the thread yet..
I have not heard direct from Russell at this moment in time, but prior to reading that bit of your message I was thinking Tuesday sounds good. Now not sure, we'll be waiting to hear from Colin who has more to think about right now. I still have to put more time in to my car search as my greatest priority but this is bank holiday weekend... arghhh my brain hurts.

It won't be the same without CBM ..who unfortunately can't make Tuesday ..for what is " his " ride ..however one or two of us still can ..and are still keen to do this . I'm desperate to get out having missed last week . Not a clue where we are going but there are loads of tracks in the area ..so we will just have to ride them all !

Well ..what a cock -up this has been for no other reason than than Santa Cruz sending the wrong bearings ! Timing in terms of people reading behind the scenes e -mails too late after other arrangements had been made have led us to the less than perfect situation where one day does not suit everyone..and our normally "tight " group doing this ride over two days instead of together ...with the majority now due to mainly work commitments only being able to go on Tuesday ...which is a real shame and even more so that the route's founder ( Colin) due to his own personal circumstances can only make it on Wednesday ..hopefully Graham can join you . The forecast for tomorrow is for rain..only cloud on Wednesday ...so a pint rather than an ice cream for the Tuesday crowd ...

Great to ride with Ian & Nick again...it had been a good while ... I wasn't feeling too grand even leaving the house to hook up with Ian and really struggled ( yes more than usual ! ) all day .. It was a really great route ..and credit to Colin for creating it ...but while the weather was nice and sunny ..the ground conditions were in the main very wet and muddy . I had spotted on the map a difficult to see bridleway due to it being " hidden " in the contours.which I foolishly suggested we did as an add on which after starting well with a cracking downhill soon levelled out to be one of the wettest , sloppiest , muddy cackholes I've ever been on ..totally energy sapping ..and just what I didn't need ! The best bit of the ride though was the last moorland section great narrow singletrack ..still wet but with enough to entertain climbing it ..but the last drop was first class back into Goathland . No pics at all as my storage was full Thanks to Dave , Jean , Nick & Ian ..to whom thanks also for the lift . Hope the Wednesday boys have an equally good time ...
