Set myself a little challange because packs annoy me. Ive decided to see if I can ride without a backpack but still have the bits I need for punctures an munch Had a load of vouchers from work for biking to work an doing cycle related things on the day so went off an came back with these Bottle cage with a box on the bottom for a tube, lever and a CO2 can. Nifty! Chain tool that hides in the stem And a frame fit bag Already checked I can get a pump food phone an multitool in there bottle will go in the cage so basically I have everything id normally carry what do you guys think?

I think it looks nifty but unless you have a real dislike to the feeling of a pack you seem to have simply transferred the weight from your back onto the bike you are trying to handle.
I prefer the lighter bike option.

Would seem to be alright for short blasts ..but just one bottle of liquid ...I wouldn't get too far ! I like a back pack personally ..and would feel a bit under tooled with what you are carrying ... It will be interesting to learn how it works out though..

That chain tool is seriously cool but for £25 i'll pass
I use to ride XC without a pack... A bottle or two on the frame, with the pump attached using the bottle mount holder and then a saddle bag with my tools and tube e.t.c It was good, but i wouldnt want to do any real trail riding with the set up. Could look at going full nDuro and getting a fanny pack!

I love riding without the camelback but carry too much stuff anyway. Sod's law the day you don't take it will be the day you need time!

If I'm pushed for time and just doing the dog I'll go without and it is great to ride without the weight of a bag on my back. Anything longer though and I need more fluid than a bottle can hold.

Yeah I am transferring the weight to the bike but also reducing the total carried. I dont really need to carry a shock pump for example which I do in my current pack. Nor do I need to carry three litres of drink. Ive been riding long enough to know what I can do without. For longer days obviously ill wear a pack it makes sense. But local loop of what 20 miles I dont see it being needed. Plus I can where my chest armor more easily.

I'd love to be able to ride packless but I'm like Zulu , I really need to drink loads while I'm out . On the Ard rock I went through 3 litres whilst my mates both had about a litre and only ran out when I did . I went packless on the uplift day a couple of weeks ago and it felt so much more comfortable

I shall deffo go 'au naturel' at BPW mind Leave a bag with drink and snacks at the uplift pick up point . If the weather is changeable and you may need to take off your jacket / put it on again , wear your pack but still leave the drink out then it lighter . I did wear my pack there as if you have a mechanical , it's a long walk down

I don't think I have ever done a ride without taking a full pack with me ..even my local rides are soon very remote and I have always had in mind " what if ?" The only thing that varies is the amount of water carried ..but never anything less than 1.5 litres . If they ever do get around to re-introducing the Lynx into these parts ( as has been discussed ) ..the weight of my pack will go off the scale with an Uzi machine gun strapped on there for protection .. Hasta la vista ..pussycat
