I don't normally ask these sort of questions but here goes. I am after a new pair of clip less shoes. I have had a pair of Shimano shoes for the last 4 years and they are finally starting to come apart. I would like a pair that are more along the lines of a free riding shoes. Are the 5 tens the only shoe of this type or are there others that you kind people would recommend?

Specialized 2FO. Seriously the best clipless shoe I've had. Looks like a flat shoe.

Al, what size feet are you? I have some Five Ten Maltese Falcon (with shimano cleats) in a size 8 if you want to give them a go. They are too narrow on my feet and give me numb toes. I bought them in august when I was up in GT with Tony and have only worn them once

Not to worry, it was worth a try Have a look at the 661 filter shoes by the way, pretty cheap and very comfortable.

The spesh has to be a contender. Gets great reviews. My next shoe for sure. They really are great. Not sure how the flats are, but they get 10/10 for me because they make a size UK13. Look at it this way, Curtis Keene used them in the EWS, Aaron Gwin used them in the DH WC. Versatile as fook!

I bought the Teva Links version of a clipless show and they are great - also look like a flat shoe and have this great feature where you can adjust the shoe position on the pedals while you ain't wearing them! works really well too. Shame I have gone off SPD type riding - I only used them 3 times. These are the ones I got - at that great price too, real comfortable for a clipless shoe. Teva Pivot

The flats are supposed to be too stiff so that you cant feel the pedal. That's the negative feedback however to me it sounds like the positive is that you can get the power down.

I've had a pair of the shimano a41 which look a bit special but the large wrap area gives them a degree of water resistance. The grip and power transfer is fantastic. Also very comfortable and okay to walk in.
There's a new version out now.
If I was getting new shoes they would be the free rider vxi or the new version which is contact.

Pair of 2FO's purchased and ready for a ride tomorrow. They feel good on and I am looking forward to riding in them.

Have they any grip at all on the sole ( as in tread ) ? That' s the only thing that puts me off that style of shoe as it has been known for me to push my bike up steep gnarly stuff ..and I just think that I'd end up walking like spotty dog off the Woodentops ( I'll find some footage in a mo ...for younger readers of this post who may not have a clue what I'm on about ) Right up there in the style stakes though ...
Spotty dog makes his appearance around 6:30...for those who aren't totally riveted by the action leading up to him ( but for the life of me I can't think why you wouldn't be ...

Worn for the first time this afternoon. While riding they felt really good. I didn't know I was wearing them.
Did a bit walking around while sessioning a trail feature and the only thing I did notice was that they were a little nippy on left outer ankle bones. small price to pay.
Grip felt OK wasn't slipping around.

I think he was just joshing ..but you have just answered why I won't get a pair ...most of the riding I do is away from trail centres and walking forms part it ..I would most probably face plant in those ...but if it was on looks alone ..yeah baby yeah !

There are still some mid Tevas knocking about if you are lucky. I was only joking Al - I'd already seen the F20's on a spesh stand at Cannock and have already made up my mind they'll be my next shoes - they do a flat pedal version too.
