I postponed my day off this week to today from Tuesday as I'd been nursing an head cold. I had mapped out what should have been a great ride from Clapham up slaithe scar and around pen y Ghent. However I still didn't feel great this morning so stuck to a fairly local loop that could be cut short if needed. Seemed a shame to drive an hour to Clapham to call it off part way up the first long hard slog. Managed some steep miles but felt like hard work and confirmed that I was right not to tackle a 35mile 5000ft ride today. Some pics (gave me a chance to rest). nasty zig zag climb (Gaz and Russell would like this one though) chilling by widdop res before tackling the bastard climb away from it towards Hurstwood. The calmest I've ever seen it on here, was a lovely day. Final long descent, two miles from gate to gate, down to Hurstwood res. The zero flew down here today not held up by any head wind for a change. I'm liking these extra days off, will have to do some work soon though.

great day for a ride kirky, i think i know the climb you mention in the second pic. is that one taken just after crossing the dam wall? Thats the one starts off gentle around the edge of the res and then in the corner it's starts to get nasty, you think you've done all. The hard work and the after the steepest part it becomes loose marbles so let's steep but far less grip. I can confirm I'm not a lover of this climb no rear bounce yesterday so thought I may struggle a bit down the hurstwood descent due to water drains etc however the combo of lack of head wind and being able to pedal the one flat/uppish short middle section lead to my 2nd fastest time.
