Since missing out on a new 'bird' until at least Feb next year I keep trawling pinkbike & ebay. Keep getting the urge to build myself a full bouncer - missed out on an '09 Trance X frame & shock today for £130. I 'accidentally' picked up a set of 2014 140mm Fox forks the other day (will be upgrade for my HT) on ebay for £110 - and I have spare parts & wheels kicking around doing nothing...... I know building will be fun and I could build something fairly unique & smart on a budget with picking up used bits and can take as long I like (in theory but that'll never happen lol) and that's part of the fun. But can't help thinking I'll build it and then still want to go with my original plan of getting a new bike - which would then make the exercise slightly fruitless.....
But I soooo want to build another bike!!!
Talk me out of it please!!!!

Do it mate. Save some money on good condition used parts and spend the dish where it matters on a quality frame and you just may end up with a better bike than the bird. Plus the satisfaction of building it yourself.

That's not helping......
Hypothetically then what 26" wheel 140mm travel frame would you go for??

I love building my own bikes. The cost does tend to run away with me though so, be warned..

If you don't already have one, I'd build a really nice hardtail. Cotic BFE or Stanton Slackline maybe....

Build one, I like tinkering with bikes but like beans said watch the costing cos it does tend to run away!!
The mega could be a good shout, lots of them about and they're solid.

If I ever had a Mega I'd go for the TR - really like them I do.

Cheers chaps - you're defo not helping! The Mega is a bike I've long lusted after - slightly over my budget at the moment but will keep my eyes peeled. I'm looking to do this as economically as possible. Ideally looking for around £300 on a frame so as not to completely blow the budget.

I'll talk you out of building a bike
Dont be stupid... All that time waiting on parts and hours building it up for then things to come loose and break etc it's not worth it dude...
Build two!!! Then when one falls apart you have another to ride!

Hmmmm..... build 2 bikes??? Now that could get expensive lol. Already got a HT so want to do a full bouncer.
Current thinking is Giant Trance (every one raves about the meastro suspension) or if I can push budget or get one a bit cheaper maybe a Mega.
Don't mind if it's tatty cosmetically as I'll end up changing colour anyway.
