I had grand ideas today to head from Clapham North Yorkshire over towards Horton via crumpstall scar and then tour pen y gent.
I got over there and started to climb the loop around pen y gent but a few things conspired against me, first was a flat which used my only spare tube, then I got stuck behind a massive herd of cows which were waiting at the gate I. Need together through. I tried coMing around from the side but the buggers wouldn't budge, I didn't fancy getting right in amongst them as there quite a few calves and I'm wary of defensive mothers.
whats the best way to get a large herd to move?
then It started to rain hard and was pretty windy so I took all these things as a bad omen and turned around and headed back up to complete the Clapham, feizor classic. The field descent from the scar is a corker the rain made it even more interesting with a couple of Dicey skids that I just about got out of unscathed. Then comes one of the best bits of walled singletrack I've ridden a bit short at around 6.5 minutes but really flowy, very steep in places, limestone features to roll over, rock ledges, stone slab bridges and water bars to drop off and jump over. Tremendous fun surrounded by stunning scenery in what the locals call gods country.
in the end I'm glad I cut short the pen y gent loop as after climbing back up the scar again to finish on the full rocky lane down hill back towards the tunnels I really struggled up the steep grassy climb, i would have been knackered with another 15 miles on my legs.
