Off work today, again, but having agreed to do the to and from school runs I decided not to venture too far in case I was late for school.
i decided on a route from Hurstwood into Hebden bridge just for a change. This time though working in some new sections of trail I found in a handy little book and also reverse some other better known sections.
The new section was limers gate over brown hill, which starts after a hike a bike climb up from Keighley road, it was a very long section of meandering single track down to Old town whereby you could then work in one of the Pecketts well descents, I decided not to go down pecketts well though as I was a bit concerned about the time. Instead I dropped down a very narrow walled bridle way called tasty treats which lead to a lovely water fall. Ive attempted to go down there before in summer but it was over ridden with nettles and brambles and I had to turn back. Hardly any nettles today but the bastard brambles nearly dragged me off the bike at times and thank god I was wearing a jacket or I would have been shredded.
The pay off was this nice little spot to stop for a sandwhich.
it was hard earned mind, you can kinda judge the steepness of the drop down from this pic, it was cobbled and slippy in places and some big drops and steep water bars. Pretty tricky with the added issues of the narrowness and brambles. Down starting from the top right.
as I said it was hard earned as unfortunately the climb up the over side was equally as steep as the descent and pretty damn heavy going in places. Note to self would make a good down hill sometime in the future.
looks more fun going down.
A bit bit from Limers gate. It started from what must be the highest point in Calderdale, knackered climbing up there.
needless to say I got back to the car just in time to do the school run. I need a lie down.
