And you can't get it back?
Heard a lot say this over the last few years and always thought they were mad. Well it's happened to me. Had an enforced lay off due to an injury but now it seems to be slowly getting sorted, I just ain't feeling the MTB luuurve.
Am off tomorrow, shin pads have arrived, ideal time to start again but I really am struggling to motivate myself.
Take up tiddly winks? sell up? man up? WTF do I do to get it back?
Help!

Eh, put your kit on. Just put it on and go out. Taking all the kit off without actually getting out on the bike will make you feel like a failure of a man.
Even your Mrs won't want to sleep with you.
TL:DR - Go out you wuss.

I've got en enforced lay off the bike in the not too distant future due to having a small operation which means 4 weeks off work and more than likely more than that off the bike and my first thought was....... no bike time , i can't imagine losing it for the bike, it's my only escape from real life, being of work for that long but no bike too......frustrating seeing it just sitting there idle, doing nothing....i'm the kind of saddo that looks in on my bike before i go to bed Find a way mate....just get it back

As marsbar said, just get out and ride, it soon comes back. I am sure we all feel like this at times. I had not ridden aug-sept due to hols, work, family stuff. Dreaded going out again. Two weeks ago I went out, blew out my arse, but loved it. Then had week off work and got out 3 more times last week now itchin for next day off. You just need to do it....what else you gonna do with your time.

Come on Pez... I looked out of the window this morning and the weather was shite ..but saw it as an opportunity to try out my new waterproof trousers ..and I knew that Colin wouldn't wus out ..and if he was prepared to travel 30 miles overland to meet me then the least I could do was to make the effort to meet him ..and I'm so glad I did ..we have had a terrific day ..with a lot of exploring of new tracks which we had never visited before . Once you are out there you will wonder why you thought you couldn't .. Get your ass in gear sunshine !

I am in a long slump, I got big time ankle injuries from hill running in July. Ran Snowden against common sense, aggravated more injuries due to compensating how I was running. Since July I have barely pedalled a bike or run a mile. Weight is creeping up and I am just trying to motivate myself.
Just spent a small fortune getting my bike all ship shape and I am just going to force myself back on the bike and get out and just pedal and get through the shit weather and struggles for loss of fitness.

At this time of year, with the onset of crap weather, a bit of low motivation is normal. Plus generating a pile of dirty kit and bike in no time at all doesn't help. Or impress the gaffer (wife).
Remedies: -I find a bit of variety helps so I alternate between the MTB, road bike and running with no fixed plan. Is there anything else you like doing? (not beer)
-Also doing anything in a group helps. I run on Tuesday nights in all weather with a bunch of mates. Never miss it.
- ETA> Get out for some long walks with your dog. You'll both enjoy that.................. and he is a bit tubby.

i was going to say, 'pez, what you need is a big f*** off mountain to ride' but actually theres been times when i feel iv needed the opposite, like a nice steady pootle amongst some nice scenery, somewhere to lose yerself for a couple of hours without busting a gut. a nice waters edge ride like ladybower is good for that.

I lost mine in May when i stopped real trail riding, then came drinking season, now that's finished I've started heading into the hills again and my mojo is coming back, especially now winter is coming and all the fair weather riders have packed up leaving me nice empty trails, plus I've just bought a garmin with maps on it so i get really off the beaten track this winter Just got to rebuild the stamina and fitness now

I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner if I'm honest Pez. Living as close to the Chase as you do would be great and shite at the same time. On one hand it's on your door and you can go any time, but on the other hand it's the only place you ever ride. When I first started riding it was the only place I went and it got boring after about 12 months. Even doing the off-piste you tend to just follow the route you know or at the very least you are still riding the same fire roads you always do. Variety is the spice of life mate.
I'm doing a lap of Dudmaston woods and then jumping on the national cycle route following the river Severn down to Bewdley for cake and coffee on Sunday. It's going to be a fairly fast-ish group and 40 miles. You're welcome to join.

As Harry says you need to have variety or it gets boring. I went on a local ride organised through FB & Strava last night and ended up riding 8 miles of completely new routes on my doorstep, followed by 12 miles I knew but with different people. I'm lucky as my mate drags me out whatever the weather and I always enjoy it. If it was just me I would not go as often. I recommend a potter about but try somewhere new.

I hereby declare all official car parking spaces at Cannock closed. Alternative car parking is now available for forum members in Thorn Close, Rugeley. The parking is completely free (making it attractive to Tykes), apres ride refreshments will be provided by Mrs Zulu and whilst riding your car will be guarded by a fierce hound.
The only obligation falling on riders will be to ensure Zulu gets off his arse and joins the ride.

Ooooo how was it Jim? Would have loved to have joined last night. It was good thanks, lots of new trails, had to bail out and take a short cut after 2 hours as my mates son was home alone but I knew the rest of the ride and missed the pint at the end! Legs are a little tired this morning though, 33k with at least 80% off road

I`m in exactly the same boat pez and have no suggestions to offer.i had a brilliant weeks holiday in Scotland the last week n july, rode 4 of the 7 stanes and loved every single mile (apart from mcmoab at kirroughtree)since then I`ve only been out once and that was to guisburn and I hated it and not ridden the bandit since.i`ve been out with the froggy 2 or 3 times for some downhill runs to get some practice for a mates race next month, whether I do anything else after that remains to be seen.i hope you sort yourself out and get out and ride.

Same to you Paul. Glad I posted this thread after all (wasn't going to as it's a proper drama queen thing, tbh) but it's good in a way to know I'm not the only one whose not feeling it atm. Hopefully you get it back too - I only posted a thread the other day about doing Helvellyn next summer to try and give myself a goal but it's not really working. I'm making myself go out right now and I've got a workmate coming over to ride Cannock tomorrow - hope it snaps me out of it. Perhaps I do need a break from it, perhaps not. I'll give it a few weeks and see how I feel then. Very strange though as up to recently I would be counting the days down to the next ride.

Dibs on the Bird?....Too soon? I think everyone has been there, I know I was when I seemed to lose all of my fitness after my big off.

yep I felt exactly the same. I`m putting my current mindset down to the fact that I changed jobs at the end of august and it`s not working out like I was expecting it to.

Chin up Zulu. I think we all get like this occasionally. Could be down to your recent injury? - just gets you down after a while, especially if it stops you doing something.
Just get out in the fresh air and go for a bimble - doesn't even need to be the Chase - could just be along the canal.

Sorry to hear this although I'd guessed as much from your odd comment on facebook. I sympathise, as in my own experience there's nothing like a shit spell at work to make life a bloody ordeal even when you aren't there. I hope it picks up soon and you get back to your usual self, complete with caustic comments on here.
ETA. I don't think MZ's problem is caused by work stress, as a reliable source told me he never did anything when he was there.
