My old Sam Hill five tens are starting to fall apart at the seams... only had them about 2 years..... now looking at the Shimano AM41's as a cheaper replacement.....(flats only version)
wos the craic with you guys that have owned and worn both brand of footwear.... what ya reckon is the AM41 every bit as good and grippy as the more expensive 5-10's

I've got both 510's and the AM41's, about the same tbh, shimano are slightly better for push up back as their sole is not smooth.

cheers bud....after chatting with a few riding buddies who have the am41's I went and splashed the cash on a pair over at winstanleys..... only £56 .... cheaper than the sam hill five tens....
I was advised to get a pair 1 size larger than what I usually wear...

Not bad advice that, I find the size 12's a little small, but I do have massive feet. So y'know! Plus this little splash cover over the laces does help keep some of the spray out of the shoe!

having worn the Shimano AM41's for a good few months now I can report that they were well worth the dosh.... I would say that my old Sam Hill 510's had loads more grip on the pedals... but overall the AM's were lighter and more comfortable to wear... they didn't really keep my feet that much dryer, as they are a closed in shoe and therefore make your feet sweat.....
would defo plump for another pair when the time comes.....

I hate my AM41s the grip just Chaffed away as the pedals I was using ( nukeproof) destroyed them in about 5 rides . They were brilliant to start with until when you start moving your foot about then it like putting cheese in a grater . Never never again . Get 510s they will last 100 times longer best £80 I spent .

I found their test spot on...measuring both your feet on the floor and then just check! But I would probably say that 9.5 would be fine since they are pretty spot on. I've ordered a bit bigger to allow extra room for Sealskinz socks with liners. Also, you have free returns, so I ordered both numbers and returns the ones that didn't fit. Quick refund...
