no...he has long hair in a ponytail!?...and I'm not joking btw...but besides the ridiculous hair for his age, he is a proper proper good guy!? Moans a bit sometimes when he sees a climb, but on the downs he is hard to beat.

Seriously rlo ..and I'm saying this for the right reasons ..he might be the nicest bloke in the world and may not personally give a shit about his own safety ..but if he turned up for a ride and didn't wear a helmet ..I wouldn't ride with him ...just wouldn't want to be there when it all went wrong From my point of view it's next to insane not to wear one ..brought home in very real terms by the recent accident to Andy Watson Yes ..it is still down to personal choice ..but the sooner it's made compulsory to wear a helmet ..the better as far as I'm concerned

The problem is when you have done it for over 20-30 years...back home when i was young i was also a bit stupid and used to ride motorbikes with no helmet!?

That's where we would differ then ..even if I had travelled 200 miles to do a group ride and someone within that group planned to ride without a helmet ..I would rather turn around and head home than ride with them ..I think it's wholly disrespectful to the people you are riding with to expect them to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong when you haven't taken any precautions to protect yourself in the first place Rant over ...

Good stuff! Is it the nutcase that rides with no helmet? ;-) The one and only...but let's not judge him...!? I've given up on that argument and to be fair to him, he hardly ever falls, and when he does he is like a cat! I know, I know...it only takes once...but he is the coolest and I'm sure you will like him...if his legs have recovered from yesterday!? I've try hard not to pre judge anybody but from what you have said he sounds like a really nice, cool crazy kno .

iv a few different feelings about this. first of all, the reason im asking his age is that if he was young enough to be my son id feel responsible for him and tell him 'no helmet no ride'. but if hes a generation older then i think if he wants to risk his own neck thats his decision. its not like anyones paying me to guide a ride. then again as hodgy and gaz say, he's being selfish expecting others to pick up the pieces if something drastic happens because he hasnt taken reasonable precautions to help his own situation. like hodgy comments, everything that has been said is for the right reasons, not just for the sake of being arsey. im still in two minds whether to accept that he risks his own safety

Guys...i understand and agree on what you all say...but I'm not going to tell anyone who is old enough what to do or not to do...specially if that someone is old enough to be my dad (he's 55 but doesn't look like it at all in appearance, physique, etc so lest not judge or compare)...in the end of the day you are responsible for your own actions, not others. Im responsible for my children and thats it. And as much as i don't agree with a lot of things in life, i have to respect some people's choices. And he is a very good rider which reduces the chances of falling but even when he does he is much more aware...tbh, he might not even come since its not confirmed!? If you knew him you would understand and maybe be less worried. We can all fall, helmet or not helmet and hurt ourselves. This might sound like I'm being defensive, but not at all...and I'm sorry if this brought a bad vibe on something that is supposed to be a fun enjoyable time...

Your right Gonzalos at his age he should no better or he's made up his minds that's what he's going to do. As none of us know him we may not be that bothered what he does when he rides on his own and if he had an issue we would be none the wiser. However on group rides there is a sense of being a collective and we tend to pull together and share issues be. It mechanical or physical rather than just leaving the unfortunate party to it. Therefore it does potentially offer a different dynamic. Looking at clips of the beast I may wear some pads myself tomorrow for a change.

I really wish that this " topic" hadn't been mentioned as I don't want cause any bad feeling ... Personally I don't care how good a rider your friend thinks he is ..he is not God almighty ..so shouldn't go around acting like he is . Accidents can happen at any time ..to anyone ..that's why they are called accidents and like it or not he is being totally disrespectful to everyone else in that group tomorrow by not wearing at least a helmet .. Don't care how cool , interesting , blah blah he is away from the bike ..on it in my eyes without a helmet he is a complete tit ..and I would have no hesitation in telling the youth that at his age he should know better ...

ok lads everything is a matter of opinion. obviously he isnt just a young lad that needs guidance, so its up to him how he rides. i think on this occasion its a matter of, he makes his own decisions at his own risks, but in future i'll stress 'no helmet no ride' for any ride that i guide.

I think disrespect is a way too strong word...he is not at all like that!? and if i felt he was doing that or being that way, we wouldn't be having this conversation...
i apologise if this has caused any issue...ill keep my mouth shut next time and not advertise any forum rides.

dont worry gonzalo.its just a subject that is always likely to raise opinions, it is a forum afterall. a place where things like this are discussed. it'll not spoil the ride tomorrow. i reckon with andy being involved in what could have been a more serious accident only a few months ago, its a more sensitive subject than normal

To be honest...after tomorrow i will put my foot down on this subject and tell Mick i will only ride with him if and when he wears a helmet...so this "discussion" might have brought some positive note on that front?! I've tried the arguing and moaning before...time to step it up to the psychological strategy?! LOL
I agree...Andy's accident brought this issue to the top of our priorities of course...i remember a few years ago, we used to ride the same type of trails...with no front suspension...no shock...no helmets...no pads...lol

First of all the last thing anyone wants is for you to hold back from venturing your opinion ... It's a very emotive subject ..but I just find it so very difficult to comprehend why anyone would put their own life at risk so readily ... Nothing personal ...and I do hope you have a tremendous time tomorrow ...and the mountain bike gods are with you ..

Oh my friend...im known for always venturing my opinion...lol...comes with being a latin!? LOL And i do agree on all you say...we only differ in the fact that i don't let it get to me...i say my peace and then rest...but i will try to get this situation changed in the near future.
Ill bring the bag of Haribo if i don't forget so we can all have some.

Nice one as long as they're not the sour ones.
Where do we all stand on sour sweets?
Fuelled by haribo and ibrobufen.
One thing I like about glynns rides along with the company of course, the route knowledge etc etc are the dedicated subsidence breaks.
I've had all too many rides in the past where we've just carried on regardless and then by the time I feel like I'm beginning to bonk it's too late.
