The shortened version ( having just lost 15 mins.worth of writing!)
Ian,Colin,Graham & myself met up to check out a couple of bridleways which we had spotted but never ridden before ...and Ian was riding a lot of the stuff that we had found over the course of the last six months for the first time.
The weather was chilly to start with ..but Mr Blue was promising better things ..and so it turned out..a truly belting day .
The first "new" b/way worked out too ...a nice bit of trail which cut out a good section of forest road ..the mtb gods were smiling !
The route was going to comprise two loops in a figure of eight but depending on time we could cut this short .
After showing Ian a section he had never been on we went to check out the bothy we will be staying at in not too many weeks time ..glad to say it was was in good order..next up Felicia Crags (quarry)..where we had a play for a while and the ingrained trail building tendencies of Ian & Graham in particular had them moving large slabs of stone around ![br
Colin on the Claver Hill bridleway ...notice 2 of the 4 concrete foundations from an old fire watchtower
Ian checking out the trig point ( his first time on this b/way )
[/URL
Colin & Graham ..not quite dusty ..but surpringly dry trail
Next up was the b/way over Round Top which continues to the start of the b/way over Burnt Tom and the main reason for being out today..
We knew from a previous visit that the start would be OK ...but were a little sceptical that it would remain that way
The start...
Unfortunately our fears were confirmed as halfway along its length it just turned into a tussocky boggy overgrown mess..totally unrideable...and a real shame ...so we had to turn around and climb back up the way we had come ...bummer!
It was also at this point that it was stick or twist in terms of continuing the ride..and Colin needed an early finish..so headed back ..after making sure he knew exactly where he was going ... the three of us remaining decided to continue...
More to follow Inc more pics..
