Hello,
Im in the market for an action camera as id like to capture some footage on my different rides.
I like the look of the Contour roam 2 as its small and looks discreet on the side of your helmet. Anyone used one of these?
Then there is the GoPro Hero 3+ Silver edition. I like the fact you can use your phone to control it and see whats being shot to position it correctly. And the fact you can use a chest mount view and it has more mounting options.
What do you reccomend?
Guys with GoPros what are they like to mount on the helmet. are they bulky etc. Is the chest mount harness annoying to wear?
Sorry for all the questions im just abit undecided as there is a considerable price difference.
Thanks
Phil

I had one for 6 months... Never used it! However I'm told the chest mounts work well...

Garmin do a cracking cam, someone here has one.... You can display the image of the map, on the video and everything... Very cool!

I had a Go Pro and didn't use it much.. Sold it and the person who bought it doesn't use it much either.
I only ever used it with the chest mount and didn't find it annoying at all.. Forgot I had it on most of the time!
I had other mounts but didn't use 'em.
Mine was one of thr first HD models and personally I can't see a massive difference when compared to newer models where picture quality are concerned.

I've got the gopro hd 2,used it on every ride for the first couple of months and then the novelty wore off. I use it very rarely nowadays ,mostly for dowhill and only when i remember to switch it on.also it flattens everything out so when you look back at the dead gnarly hillside that you smashed down it looks as flat as a fart. Having said that i'll take it to antur stiniog ror the little meet up,just to get the evidence

Real good photo that.
I definetly prefer the chest mount view as you can see the bars etc and how much work have to do.
How do you find the chest harness to wear? Can it still be worn with a camel bak?
I think id be dissapointed if i couldnt mount my camera on chest. So i may look at a go pro

I've got the GoPro Hero 3 Black, I used it a lot when I first got it, but now? I only use it at trail centres really, and even then I don't use it as much as I did as the only people who give 2 hoots about the footage are me, some other biking mates and occasionally the internet.

Nice photo that.
Me and DHKitty use the Gopro3 white and are more than happy with it, not really seen a cheaper alternative that gives quite as good quality or choice of attachments than you can get with Gopro. Not saying there isnt anything out there but just saying we havnt seen it.

As Ukan said, go pro 3 hd white, used it with chesty ans helmet mount, both ok. I also tend to forget I am wearing it, put chesty on first, then camelbak.

I'm gguessing the video quality will be similar

there great for group ride outs i suppose but cant see the point when your out on the trail on your own...the thought of spending £200 or more on a cam only to use it 3 times then bin it in a draw does not appeal to me might as well just get ya mate to record you with your mobile if your doing jumps and stuff

As I said before don't think of it as only being albe to use it on the bike. Try using it as a stills camera/video for everyday life as well. Its soooo versatile, video of at all kinds resolutions, stills of pretty darn good quality, photo burst (take up to 30 shots in 3 seconds) and even a timelapse mode. Its unreal! Here's a time lapse I did, take the shots in the mode, import to the GoPro software and it turns it into a video itself, simples... Summer Sunset: And no I'm not a sales person

I bought iRide's Goo Pro off him and as he says - I hardly ever use it. It's the earliest model but still does all I require. Will probably take it to Llandegla tomorrow and then film some of my fave off piste runs at Cannock.

I really don't see the need for the latest all singing all dancing version.. That's just me though!

I agree - think all it hasn't got is the wi-fi, the screen on the back (which eats yer battery anyway) and maybe a time lapse option? none of which I need anyway.
If you ever want to borrow it - like for the Peaks yesterday - you've only got to shout up btw.

Hope it helps
