Do you do it? or put them back in cleaned but dry? light film of teflon grease or not required?
I'm on about the axle surface, btw.

Read somewhere not too, but I can't work out why you wouldn't tbf. Think I'll do it anyway, if for nothing else, it's easier to put back in.

I always give them a coating before replacing, not sure if it's right or wrong though.

My new shimano ones had a small amount on them when I took the out the box so I guess you do. You wouldn't want too much I reckon as it may bung up but a little can only help imo.

thin coat of something slippery always helps, its more to make them easier to remove if anything so less pelting it with a rubber mallet when you want to get it off.

Thanks chaps - just wanted re-assuring that I wouldn't feck it up by greasing - looks like a thin smear will do.

If I remember the XTR had some residue on them when new...I would probably spray a bit of fork juice maybe?...I do it on the wheel axles as well now and then!

I lightly coat the bearing seats on the spindle... This is more so to aid with insertion.. Fnar fnar

A bit of Lube always makes for a good insertion
