My bottom bracket has gone, and I was wondering if that is normal in what I would consider a fairly new bike.
Got the bike 23/10/2015 and have done 640 miles (according to Strava!).
It is a RaceFace BSA Cinch bottom bracket fitted to a Whyte T-130.
Is this normal wear & tear?
Cheers

Definitely, I think the bearings in them might be replaceable mind? Worth checking

Race face bbs are notoriously bad. I felt a kind of drag effect with mine only after a couple of rides fortunately I have a 73mm threaded so easy to whip out and replace with a ceramic bearing jobber 14 months later it's still going strong and silky smooth.
Another bad points for the race Face bbs is that they need their own tool for extraction.

Is it cos I only mince?

The SRAM BB on my T130 is just starting the creak after just over 1000 winter miles in some really shitty conditions. I've got one with stainless bearings from Uberbike waiting to go in.

Have you tried the Uberbike ones before? I'm tempted with one but I can't find any reviews on them. Am I right in thinking that the bearings are replaceable without a complete new bb?

You can buy replacement bearing sets.
I have the stainless steel one and the ceramic bearing one. The ceramic seems a lot better.
One thing to watch for with the stainless one is if you are running 24mm crank spindle eg shimano than the drive size bearing is 30mm with a spacer sleeve to fit your 24mm. As I found out on the first ride if the cranks not pushed through super snug on the drive side then the spacer sleeve will work loose and result in 6mm of play. Towards the end of the ride I thought the bb was toast until I found this simple problem and knocked the crank through as far as it would go before adding the non drive arm.

Just fitted it, seems good quality and you can just replace the bearings. SRAM also have a sleeve in the none drive side but with SRAM you have a center bolt with a 48-56 nm torque rather than pinch bolts so no danger of things not seating right

Cheers guys - have spoken to LBS and they kinda backed up what you've said & I've since Google'd - RaceFace are not the best, but it is a wear-&-tear part, so they're putting a slightly upgraded one in. Ta Ps - apologies if anyone read this on mbr.co.uk - wasn't sure of the cross-forum posting etiquette! Funnily enough this same post is going over there as well ...

RF BB Shells them selves are fine just the actual bearings seem pretty poo. You can get away with using different bearings just a case of matching the sizes youll need a caliper venier for that though ive no idea sizes off hand im afraid.

Hmmm, when my RF goes then I'll have a squint at the ceramic jobbies from Uberbike then.

I was thinking that was unlike you, that outburst. Haven't met you in real life (yet) but you seem a calm, good natured sort on here. Still waters run deep, eh?

It's a bit like Jekyll and Hyde I guess! Lol However, when you compare it with this forum, not only in terms of people's personalities, respect of opinions (including on E-bikes...lol) helping others, knowledge, subject of posts, sorting rides out, etc, etc...this one is miles better!
