When for a ride in the Lakes today with a couple of lads I ride with on a Wednesday night who are into retro bikes. I though I'd post up a couple of pictures to see if they bring back memories for Hodgy any of the older members on here. They did tell me in great detail what make, model, options, how many where made etc etc but I have a short attention span and just wanted to get riding! My mates bike for the day, he currently has 56, yes 56 bikes in his garage the newest is a 2004 orange 5 rim brakes and about 20mm of travel on them forks An old Orange, this look absolutely lethal coming down Iron Keld, narrow bars, skinny tyres, rim brakes and no suspension, unless you count the foam grips as suspension which these nutters do! and another one, check out the spokes in the front wheel! more lethal contraptions A 'Jones' with mad bars and forks The weather was ace and the ride interesting, went though sone cave's in one of the quarries near Elterwater A few mechanical's and more punctures on one ride than all of the other rides I've been on in the last two years but the sun was shining Hats off the the loons ridding these today,I'll stick with my new fangled disc brakes and full suspension thanks

Did you get accused of cheating?
Must be good riders to cover that terrain on those contraptions.

Brother in law just got rid of his old 1996 proflex contraption. Didnt know people still liked riding things like that. The elastomer bushes were rotten, but someone still paid money for it.

I actually did wonder if you would be on that ride ( Matthews ) ...I remembered that you had an interest from a while back ..might even have been mtbe days when you did a ride from Sutton Bank ...how does a bike qualify as " retro " ? A certain age or just a lack of certain new fangled components ...are V brakes a must ? Ps ...slightly off topic ...did you find a suitable Disco ?

Retro for the minority anal brigade is pre 97 and they have hissy fits when you braze disc tabs on and fit modern air forks/wheels etc but they tend to be the ones that don't actually ride there bikes , for our Northern group it's more a case of bring what you've got and have a good day out , I take the soul on the tougher rides and the Lava Dome on the smoother ones (it's not the Lava Dome that can't cope but my body the day after !!!), still looking for the disco !
