Right, long and short of it ,its only Wednesday and its been a C££$$% of a week ,on the upside as its fathers day so that means ALL DAY FREE PASS !!! Do I play it safe and knock a peak loop out local enough to start at 9am and be home for 3 easy , or do I make the most of it , chuck bike in car and blast up the M6 to Keswick and go big ? meaning a 7am start 200 miles but the views and the happy feels from a blast around the Borrowdale valley . Worries being billy no mates and "going for it " ending in 6 weeks off work the wrath of the long haired boss when i get back at 6pm Secondary plan , Kendal - Garburn and Kentmere pass = back earlier + lakes views but the risk of me having the feels and carrying on Up High st Discuss

Similar thinking here but I am going with safe option though. My lads are still young and want to do something as a family. If I do an epic then the day will be gone and I will be a knackered crank when I get back. So it will be an up early, 2-3 hrs blast and home by 12/1pm and then do something with the family. This way I have not really used my pass either so can pull it out when I fancy a big ride later

Are you talking about Saturday or on the Sunday. Do you have kids who my wonder why you've done one when they want to bestow you with gifts.
Saturday morning on the bike for me to be accessible for fathers day stuff on the Sunday. Feel I should do especially as I'm off to China early Monday morning for 2 weeks.

Go for the big loop and just go steady
Take lots of photos to show the boss and tell her you was thinking of her....
Then quietly tell your bike you didn't mean it and she's the only one for you

How is this even a dilemma??? If your going on the saturday and doing family duties on the sunday + giving your wife a lye in on fathers day, then i think you totally deserve the borrowdale run. I think the weather is supposed to be ok on saturday to, well it is in the midlands.

I totally agree Kalli and strangely enough so does the boss, but where we differ is Borrowdale, I've fancied a run up Grizedale pike and down Whiteless pike ( YouTube Whiteless) with a run back into Keswick via Catbells, weather looks clear and without wind.
7am start Inc Coffee and pastries and a 108 mile drive

That's a big ride ...not so much in length but height gain...I've only seen the video but having looked at the map it would appear that there would be a lot of pushing to gain the fantastic descent ..and maybe not much difference time wise to doing Borrowdale ?

The plan all being well if me and weather hold up, not the lowest ride but the climbing is hard, if it gets to much after the Whiteless run the a run back to Keswick via Rigg beck and Catbells is on the cards www.strava.com/activities/592071030. Will be taking extra cake!

I have found this a very useful website for those to tight to spend £200 on a Garmin because we know we would loose /break them www.wainwrightroutes.co.uk/whitelesspike_r1.htm OS maps and cheeky screen grabs on the Samsung should keep everyone on the right path

First image is at the Top of Whiteless , second is the god aweful hike a bike up from Braithewaite . Was a good 5 hour loop but i was lagging a little ,hardest 25 k ive ever done , Harder than Helvellyn and so steep on the down to Buttermere , the run back through the Newland valley to Rigg Beck is a pain in the arse tbh , i think the loop would be better with a calf burn up Honister than pick up the bridal way at the end of the Borrowdale bash around Mainstey and the Grange.Still its one now ticked off the list , there is a route off Grisedale head that looked ok to tie in if you pick up the South red loop from Whinlatter

Great photos stevedoc, love the lake district. The thought of cycling up the honister pass is making my legs ache. On that note there is a bridleway section behind honister slate mine and i was wondering if any of the routes incorporated this section. Didn't see it until the day before i was leaving the lakes.

Just uploading the first part of the descent ,ignore the swearing and the bottling unlike most vids on the tube this isnt edited from the top just to give people a look see just how steep it is, the fact I was the only one there to made me just that little more hesitant ,I really didnt fancy a trip to Carlisle in that yellow flying bus.
Next on the list
Ullock pike , still not done Garburn to High st , and loughrigg fell just to have a look

I like the honesty there Steve...that does look effing sketchy..and even with other people around its doubtful that I would personally tackle that ... Not a ride that I would do solo either ..so I tip my hat to you sir ...well done !
