OK lads ... Our local group has talked about this for a while now ..so after further discussion while out yesterday ...it's time to put some flesh on the bones ... I returned the fat six haibike this morning and while there spoke to Martin as to how many e-mtb's they had .. There is at least 6 bikes fit for purpose ranging from hardtail ,full sus to fat bike in various sizes . So why are we doing this ?... Just for the sheer fun factor...that's all! First thing to decide is the when ...and the general consensus was sooner rather than later... As to the where ...I have a ride in mind out of Allendale which has a technical climb which goes on and on and will be a great test of man and machine...that's just for starters... So when's good for everyone ? This is open to anyone who can turn up with an e-bike ..

The only fly in the ointment there Colin would be if any of these bikes are already booked out ...that's what I don't know . Need a conversation with Ian first..

Is it E-bike exclusive?

Hmm..caught between a rock and a hard place trying to answer that one... Best answered by saying that the main reason for hiring these bikes would be to travel faster than each of us normally would ..so if anyone wished to join on a regular mtb then that's fine as long as they could match the pace of the slowest rider..otherwise we would be wasting money in terms of hiring them in the first place ... I really don't think that could happen ...

It really wasn't meant to be ...from what I have read and heard G is a really fit strong rider and where he would be more than equal ..would be when the trail points down. By comparison I'm one of the slowest riders uphill in our group ..but even the strongest rider would be struggling to match my pace on an ebike..(if they were riding their normal bike) That's not meant to sound clever ...just stating the obvious...please don't do it.

This makes you realise how e-bikes create division...and why it's a different sport.

I don't see it that way... My next bike won't be an electric bike ...but they are just bloody good fun.

I have no doubt they will be here to stay and get better and better...a bit like 29ers which were truly hated by the masses, saying they would be gone in no-time, when in fact they are just getting better and better, in their riding capabilities and looks. Price will also drop of course and people will always choose the easiest option in life, and not just in terms of bikes!

On our ride on Tuesday at Cannock, which is obviously pretty quiet so you are talking a maximum of 8 or 9 bikes? we saw more 'leccy jobbies than 'proper' bikes. Mostly ridden by grey hairs, which is understandable, also a young couple (male, female). What this proves (apart from they are becoming more and more common) I know not. I do know though that I won't be touching one until my bodily functions don't allow me to ride 'properly'. Just my observation, loike.
