Anyone doing the ard rock (sport on the sunday) in august? I've done no training whatsoever, not in the best shape fitness wise, anybody fancy a pushing partner as the guy I've entered with is a whippet!

iv not done the ardrock but we've ridden ardrock country with the swaledale route. apparently it sells out very quick. iv found that whoever you enter with on events, you always get split up anyway and theres always other riders to keep you company as you go.

You'll want beefy tyres and/or thick tubes

You can stick together on this one as it's just the downhill sections that are timed.

Did anyone do this? I did the sport one on the Sunday. Not been riding much (twice) this year so I found it pretty tough. The wind was probably the strongest I've ridden in, it stopped me in my tracks on a couple of occasions and that was on downhill bits. My mate ended up with 3 punctures and a split tyre so at least I got to try out my tubeless repair kit. You could tell there were more people doing it this year which meant more queuing. It also meant that the mountain rescue boys and girls were busy. We saw 3 people being carted away, the air ambulance was out again. I'll admit, it made me ride a bit slower. Anyway, we enjoyed it but that's probably the last time

I read on a local mtb facebook page that there were a few casualties. Other events like marathon series are tame in comparison

I punctured twice and used both my spare tubes. Some of the climbing was torture and I found some of the descents a bit tricky so I was steady away(the weather was crazy and the wind on sections 1 and 2 was just ridiculous!)
Seen a couple of bad offs and a rather nice yeti with a snapped rear triangle so was glad to make it round unscathed.(think there was around 150 who did not finish!
As someone who has only ridden trail centres and moors single track I found it very hard, enjoyed finishing as the most id ever ridden in a day was around 30k.
as you say, nice to have done it but I think ill leave it as one crossed off the list.
