Superstar have a clearance on some wheels at the moment with the AM Carbon Switch Ultra for a smidge over £250. Seem to be around 200g lighter than my Mavic Crossrides. Do I stick with the Mavics or go carbon?? If I did get them should I get alloy or steel free hub? Ta

Is that just the rims? Or complete wheel? Don't forget Sixth Element do a set for 800 (Hope) or 999 (CK) hubs. I held their rims on my hand (38mm external, 32mm internal) and I was extremely impressed. They explained to me some of the carbon geek facts between theirs and Enve's (where the cut an Enve rim to study better), and why they think theirs are better...I'm getting mine this Wednesday! Can't F£&&@ wait!
Not sure what to do if I were you...you can always upgrade your wheels to Hope ones or Mavic Crossmax's...I'm sure you would feel a difference on either of those.

Complete wheel set. Can't afford to drop best part of £1k on wheels let alone stump up for some enve's.

Ute superstar rims will definately be a good upgrade in terms of less flex and spinning up quicker, however the I think your mavic hubs may be better. There mixed reviews on the reliability of the superstar hubs.
You could get them and ride them until they break, they also have a two year warranty, free wheel trying etc so you can always send them back, their service again though is questionable. Ultimately it's still a good price if you end up swapping the rear hub out for an hope.

I have had this wheelset for just under a year now. Riding mainly natural trails in the peaks, Wales and around Dublin.
Overall i would recommend them. Here are my +ve, -ve and durability thoughts
-ve
Hard to get some tires on, (hans dampf) but manageable.
Can be hard to get to seat tubeless with a track pump, easily done with either a compressor or airshot.
Spokes can loose tension after a few rides when new (but Superstar offer unlimited truing service for free, just depends if you are local enough to drop them in as postage will cost the same a LBS. but then keep there tension.
+ve
Light, really noticed the difference between these and my old wheelset (Mavic Crossone). Most noticeable when getting up to speed or in technical climbing. Also when things get tight and twisty.
Stiff, hold a line really well.
At 24mm internal they give Maxxis High Roller II and Hans Dampf tires a good shape, not to wide too square them off, but wide enough to stop tyre roll.
Durability
I have the aluminium freehub body but would recommend the steel one mine is getting slightly worn now.
Hub bearings are still running smooth.
I have however cracked/dented one of these rims. It was on Snowdon and I should have had more pressure in the tyre. The good news was I only noticed when I got back home as the tyre had lost a few psi. I then rode the Long Mynd the next day on it, not taking it to easily and it held up fine, just lost a few psi over the day. Can send a picture if you want (dont know how to put one on here). Superstar also do a crash replacement service for £150 complete re build of the wheel including new spokes and nipples and p&p (even sent them to Ireland no bother). only took 5 days from drop off to getting my wheel back.
Only burped them twice but that was when I was playing with low pressure and dropped off into a rocky berm.
Also they look really good!
Hope this helps, any questions just ask

Thanks for the input guys. Did look at just buying the rims but works out cheaper to buy the wheel set!
dblom - how do the hubs sound?

Relatively quite, half as loud as hope hubs.

Relatively quite, half as loud as hope hubs. So probably still louder than most lol.
With regard to the free hub - what cassette are you running?

I might see about taking the graphics off - but they match the detailing on the frame with the red stripes and white text......

Wouldn't mind a set of these on my Banshee (minus the graphics as its stealth at the moment ) If i had your frame i would keep the graphics as it goes well with the frame detail.

They look good! Just seen on CRC they have Enve 26'' Rims for £350 in the sale. Still, the wheelset built up with some nice hubs will be around 1K, so you've got quite a bargain there!

£350 for enve's is good. How much would a set of Hope Pro's cost? You'd possibly build them for less than £1k.
I just want my tyres, tape and valves to arrive now!!

Hoping my tyres arrive tomorrow. Think they could turn out to be a good bargain - well they better be as between them and a new dropper it's busted my budget for the build lol.
