I particularly liked my....'Well, I did it!' ...whilst still under the bike and spitting out a few loose teeth. Shucks...tweren't nuthin'.... Yeah, smarting a bit now but not sure if that's my fecked knee, shoulder and face or my even more stinging pride

Was you trying to bunny hop that wee branch or did it have a jump or somethings on the other side to launch over?

I've got more scars than the bike- which is how it should be, if you're a proper badass.

Funnily enough Steve, I'm suffering worse today - 2 days on. I even did a steady 20 miler yesterday, not too bad, shoulder was stiff but got through it. Today, though, I feel like I've been run over by a car and my face has scabbed up now - great, on nights tonight too.
I think I may have to reconsider my riding style - I think, at 54, it's maybe a bit late to start learning jumping skills - I'll just do the diddy ones I'm comfortable with, from now on.

Naahh mate, I'm with Steve on this one - that particular ship has sailed, I think. I can do small jumps that keep me happy - I'll leave the bigger stuff to the big kids!
Broken bones and even sprains and bruising, takes a lot longer to get over once you start hitting your 40's, let alone 50's. I'm not in it to get hurt, it's s'posed to be about fun.

I think the GMBN videos are better, they go more indepth and are better put together However, i think the best way to learn is just go out and try the small stuff and then progress. It should be instinctive, you shouldnt have to think "now i need to drop my heels, now i need to pump", it should just be natural. I find the best way to try a new jump, as i did the other day, is just briefly look at it, make sure you know where you've got to land, then just ride the trail and hit it. You will already have your flow, you should be near the correct speed, and you should be loose on the bike, so it should go fine... We should be capable of saving a slide mid corner, so your reactions should be quick enough to adapt mid-air, if the jump doesnt go to plan Thats just how i see it, but yeah, you're right Zulu, the consequences definitely are bigger as you get older.

I've been spending a week visiting the Lake District...this is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places on Earth! Truly spectacular...favourite bits...crossing Windemere on the ferry, rowing on one of the lakes with my girls and then a huge fighter jet passed-by sideways and quite low, Buttermere is gorgeous...could be here all day! Don't bother going abroad if you haven't seen this first!

G...it is stunningly beautiful ..but the North West Highlands of Scotland is even more so in my opinion .. Glad you have had a good time with the girls... We are heading to Hawkshead on the 8th August for a week ...looking forward to it. NO bike allowed though !

I can imagine to be honest...and for sure a place I will visit in the near future! However, I am very impressed with the Lakes! Some of the roads I drove today were incredible! People are also very kind!

After watching the F1 and then fiddling with my road bike, i was rather bored on this rainy Sunday afternoon. I decided i'd try reuse some of my old parts lying around in my spares draw. After a bit of thinking, it was decided that this 36t superlight Renthal chainring was the perfect size to make a coffee cup coaster. A little while later, this was made! I've already ruined my desk with warm drinks, but this will prevent further damage, whilst looking cool! Not bad for a first time DIY project
